if i were child
could i tell you of green
of sickness and worry
of sad mothers?scenes
could i

if i were child
could i tell you of red
of sunsets near hatred
of how no one is fed
could i

if i were child
could i be blue
and tell you of hurting
and horrors come true
could i

if i were child
could i tell you of pink
the colour of maas’as
make me feel like i stink
could i

if i were child
could i tell you of grey
the colour of nothing
our future each day
could i

if i were child
could i tell you of brown
the colour of sorrow
the colour of my town
could i

if i were child
could i tell you of black
the colour i’m borne with
something Africans can’t take back
could i ?oh ?could i?

if i were child
could i tell you of wish
of sisterhood’s meaning
and brotherhood-ish
if i told you i love you
no matter the hurt
could you lend me your fish-pole
and teach me to fish
could you?

i wish to feed each starving mouth
each need for safe haven
cool north
to hot south

can i,
m

very moved reading this Mikhail

If  I was a child would you play with me
and eat candy sharing chocolates fair
and roll down grassy greens
and laugh with joy of beingness?
Would you?

Cara

thank you Cara for taking the time to read and comment on this work

i think the voices of children aren't listened to enough in our world

they know so much more than they are given credit for

their wisdom is clearer

best,
m

Ah mikhail your words have been sorely missed!  I would love to visit Afrika some day!  Have you ever seen a video on you tube called "Tell Me Why?"  A young lad sings it and it makes me cry.

Mikhail,  I am a member of Kiwanis International.  Our organizatioins focus is the children of the world.  Might I suggest you hook up with them, they are in 84 countries the world over... bear

With every movement of your pen, emotions spilled out and into my mind, beauty that flowed...I love how your share your thoughts of dear Afrika...you will find a way to go back, but it won't be the way you remember it...I am sorry to say.

Thank you for sharing Mikhala.

thanks so much Dix - i've not seen that video - it is no wonder the video is sad - it is a reasonable question for the children to ask 'Why'

i do hope you get to Afrika some day - part of your heart will stay there - for sure

best,
m
