I have always loved the poem by Tennyson, The Lady Of Shallot & I wondered what would have happened there now. These is my thoughts.......

This Road Once Lead To Camelot

Gone, sights Tennyson saw plainly
G.M.T. crops, bearded barley
Combined harvesters heard clearly
Cutting, baling, binding early
This road once led to Camelot
The river full of rusting rubble
New houses cover where then stubble
Bringing peoples and all their trouble
Past, is the island of Shallot.

The Lady's legend is of yore
They didn't believe, wanted more
Progress and greed replaced folklore
The past is dead and gone before
Lost, once strong towered Camelot
High rise appartments fill the space
Where a dream castle had such grace
Now none can ever see the face
Cursed, forgot, Lady of Shallot.
Val 2008

Hy, Val, this is super,

I like the way you handled the transition between past and present
and that you share my thoughts that it is usually to be one without the character
or lasting influence of the original, well scripted,
and lovely to find you on the board,

hope you are well, Val, Zy

Thank you verymuch Zy,
I have had pooter problems, but I hope it's better now, it seems to be, though it is still very slow at changing pages, loses some too, etc. I will try to get to this excellent poetry forum more often. Val xx

If your pooter is running slow
You could de-frag it don't you know
Or perhaps your internet connection
Has many errors and needs correction
I should get on to BT
Tell them you need it for poetry
But they always say, a problem ? there's not !
About as hopeful as Camelot

The Lady of Shallot,
Were she here now,
Would be shopping
Till she dropt.

Hi Val,

There seems to be an epidemic.  I've been having problems with my browser too. It's all sorted out now (well, until the next time, anyway). I think that Peter's right. We need Merlin to wave his magic wand.

I love the poem, by the way!

Thank you all for your replies.
Yes, Peter, I'm a fugitive from Beeb poetry.
Where is Merlin when you need him, playing who's the best Wizard with Madame Mim
Val xx
