Hi Everyone,

don't know if you've noticed my absence but I haven't been able to post for almost two weeks. (Greta, sorry I missed your challenge!).

Anyway, here's something I wrote in my absence-

You want the truth? You can't handle the truth!

I am enjoying misspending my youth!

You're not seventeen so you don't understand

And I cannot be seen to be holding your hand!

Yes, my friends smoke and drink

Yes, we go out, we have a ball

Sometimes they're loud and they don't think

But I am not a baby doll

***

I can look after myself and I'm know right from wrong

I don't just watch what they do and mindlessly go along!

I watch my drink's not spiked, and I make sure the sober one drives

But I couldn't be perfect even if I lived a thousand lives.

***

I've got to make mistakes, it's the way that living goes!

I've got to fall sometimes, to make sure my blood still flows

Please let me make mistakes, and I will try not to fail

Now please, live for yourself, my life is not for sale.

(c) Sinead K 2004

Hi Sinead Well I must say that I have missed your lovely poems popping up here as for this one, well  it sounds as though this young lady has her head screwed on the right way and if I was her mother I would be very proud to have such a spunky daughter who knows right from wrong and has a mind of her own. No fear of peer pressure here then. Great poem CK really well written with absolutely no nonsense. Well done. Love Val xx

Hi Sinead

I came from very over protective parents - who were frightened whenever  I wanted to spread my wings - at the time I used to get so fed up!  But now with twin sons who will be 15 in September I try to remind myself of how I felt - and to trust them to live their lives and make the right decisions.

A great poem, I enjoyed

Emma

Hi Val,

thanks so much for your lovely response! It's great to be back. Sorry I'm taking so long in replying but I'm still having to go the long way about posting and it takes a while for me to get here!

I'm very glad you liked this, you've got me in one, I'm a no nonsense kind of gal!

Thanks,

Love Sinead

Hi Emma,

oooohhh, can you have a word with my mum? She came from overprotective parents too but she's carrying on the tradition, it's now her overprotective parents who give me my freedom! Funny, now I think about it.

I hope your twins know how lucky they are to have such a cool mum!

Thanks,

Sinead

Hi Lincus,

Nice to know I've been missed and I'm ssssssoooooo happy to back! I want to get around to doing lots of replies now cause I feel like I've missed some great work, though I've still read much of it.

Yes, the line is from the film, which, incidentally, I was watching on tv earlier this evening. I'm a massive fan of Mr. Thomas Cruise!

Thank's for the enthusiam about this one, is my feisty side showing through?

Sinead
