A Tale of Special Friends - written for a little girls bedtime.

One day as Beth was walking home from playgroup clutching her best doll, Cindy, the grey clouds began to leak some little drops of rain."We had better hurry" said Mummy, "We dont want to get too wet". The two were holding hands and walking quite quickly as they turned a corner into their own street when the rain suddenly became much heavier. A boy cycling the other way had his head down to avoid the rain hitting his face and didn't see them, so when he steered his bike into a big puddle it splashed dirty water onto Beth, Cindy and Mummy which startled them all.

Beth looked down at her lovely pink trousers all splattered with muddy marks now and was not pleased - "silly bike" she said and turned to look at Cindy who was clutched firmly under her right arm - "Look Mummy - Cindy is all dirty now too!" Mummy wasn't best pleased either, but quickly said "Don't worry Beth, we can soon clean her up when we get home".

They were almost running by now and very soon they were through the door into the warmth of their home. "Right then Beth, lets get those wet clothes off you." Soon Beth was wrapped in a big soft towel and enjoying a warm drink of chocolate while sat on the settee. "What about Cindy mummy - she's still all muddy".

"Don't worry Beth, I'm just going to sponge her down and then you can dry her with the towel. Maybe you would like to stay there and watch something with Cindy while I get lunch ready?" "Yes please mummy - can we watch Beauty and the Beast please, Cindy likes that doesn't she?"

Soon Cindy was clean again and wrapped up with Beth in that nice warm towel as their favourite film occupied their attention. Mummy came back with some nice sandwiches for lunch and they all three sat together watching the story unfold. "Cindy isn't very hungry today" said Beth, "but she loves watching Beauty. Do you
think she looks like Beauty mummy?"

Mummy smiled and cuddled Beth " She does look a little bit like Beauty, but you are my real beauty Beth".

They all three cuddled together until the end when Beth noticed that Cindy wasa bit sleepy. "Cindy needs a little sleep now Mmmy - I will just cuddle her a lttle bit"
"Ok darling, you do that while I clear these plates and mugs away" and off she went into the kitchen.

About ten minutes later Mummy came back to find both Cindy and Beth were enjoying a nice little sleep. "I bet I can guess what you two are dreaming about." Mummy thought as she carefully made them both comfy on the settee. "I think I wil just pop upstairs now and get my hair sorted" she thought to herself.

Later that afternoon Beth and Cindy played with some toys together and pretended they were both princesses "Do like the crown I made for Cindy" asked Beth. "It is lovely" said Mummy, "Time for a bath now so best if Cindy sits in your bed until you are in your jim-jams."

When Beth and Cindy where tucked up in bed Mummy asked them what story they would like her to read. Beth and Cindy looked at each other "Beauty and the Beast please" came the eager reply. Mummy chuckled a little "Alright then," she said, "I will just fetch the book"

When Beth was finally settled down to sleep with Cindy in her arms, Mummy kissed the two princesses and tip toed out of the room. Soon she was sat down with a nice cup of coffee and thinking how lucky she was to have such a pretty daughter.

The End
