When I was young they said to me
An apple a day will keep you free
Of many an ill so the doctors will stay
Away from our house for many a day

 

As I grew older I stopped to buy
Some carrots when nice ones I did spy
At the greengrocery stall by our bus stop
Which I happily munched all except the top

 

My favourite fruit may be the pear
Though satsumas are oranges for which I care
But best perhaps than any of these
Are bananas shipped in from overseas
