NOCTURNAL INVASION
down came the animals
on the ray of stars
( carving a silhouette
fit for a childrens book)
under a sinister moonlight
or was it funny?
I couldn't decide
leaving my wife and children
safely sleeping
out the door I stepped
to meet these four-legged visitors
they filled the street
rats astride sheep
snakes scarfing giraffes
each sight newly bizarre
all gathered in the city square
I stood on Victoria's lap
to meet with them
but before I could speak
I was being lifted into the air
drawn into the night sky
caught on a stars ray
my mind bursting
as I saw the animals
waving goodbye to me
my rising silhouette
barely noticeable against the night sky
while it dually plays
in my wifes disturbed dream
