Vertigo is a disorder that runs in my family.   I have had episodes which required being hospitalized.   At its worse the whole room can spin or look like one of those old tvs where the screen would roll.   It can cause headaches, nausea and vomiting, too.   I have had it so bad that when I sat up in bed that I plopped back down like someone pushed me.  I've crawled on floor going from one piece of furniture to the next.   It also causes fatique.   The common treatment for it is Antivert or Mezcaline (spelling?).   But sometimes you just have to go to bed until it goes away.
It can affect a persons hearing and when that happens it is referred to as Meneire's Disease.   My hearing so far is normal for my age.   Sometimes Vertigo is a nuisance but during a bad attack, well normal activites, especially driving, cannot be done.
A diagnosis of TMJ and use of a mouth splint at night has helped my vertigo a lot.   I find that if I shake my head and look at a far distant point and fix my eyes on it, that it helps.
Yesterday was so bad I nearly fell down the stairs.   We have hand rails on both sides so I didn't get injured.
Going on an amusement ride and getting off dizzy is fun but living with dizziness hour after hour can make life quite difficult.

Wow I knew what vertigo is but didn't realize it could be that bad. Can you drive with it? I would imagine that would be a problem.  I would hate it. I used to faint alot in my younger days and I would hate the feeling.  It would happen if I got scared or stressed. I remeber the first time it happened. I was only 5 or 6 years old and watching my father fix something in the basement. The screw driver slipped and he stabbed his finger and it was bleeding. I ran up to tell my mom but the room started spinning and all I got out was "mom I feel funny". The next thing I knew I was on the floor with my mom holding ammonia under my nose screaming for my dad. Poor man needed first aid himself and there he was trying to revive me,lol.
I hope you can get this under control. Maybe when you go down stairs go very slowly and make sure you aren't dizzy first. Yikes, you can get seriously hurt.

Yikes!!!  justme....I had no idea  vertigo could be such a debilitating condition!  I hope you are doing OK with it.  Do they know what causes it?  Was it worse when you were pregnant?  I know I was nauseous half the time anyway when I was, also, being pregnant can through off your center of gravity.  Well, hope you are doing alright with it.....take care!

It comes and goes and is caused by disorder in the middle ear so colds, etc. can set it off.   There is some surgery but my general health is too bad and vertigo isn't so bad to risk it.
In regards to fainting at sight of blood.   That has to do not with a person's being "tough" or "weak" but in the way a person's body's adrenalin glands react when it faces a "fight or flight" situation.    I was on high doses of prednisone to suppress my immune system and the adrenaline glands shut down.   After I came of the prednisone, not fun, I cannot stand the sight of blood.   Before I would be cool and put pressure on an injury and clean it up but now I get weak knees and just about pass out.   I use to think anyone who got wheezy when they saw blood were sissies.   Not so, it has to do with how our bodies react, not how we react.
