Vertigo is a disorder that runs in my family. I have had episodes which required being hospitalized. At its worse the whole room can spin or look like one of those old tvs where the screen would roll. It can cause headaches, nausea and vomiting, too. I have had it so bad that when I sat up in bed that I plopped back down like someone pushed me. I've crawled on floor going from one piece of furniture to the next. It also causes fatique. The common treatment for it is Antivert or Mezcaline (spelling?). But sometimes you just have to go to bed until it goes away.
It can affect a persons hearing and when that happens it is referred to as Meneire's Disease. My hearing so far is normal for my age. Sometimes Vertigo is a nuisance but during a bad attack, well normal activites, especially driving, cannot be done.
A diagnosis of TMJ and use of a mouth splint at night has helped my vertigo a lot. I find that if I shake my head and look at a far distant point and fix my eyes on it, that it helps.
Yesterday was so bad I nearly fell down the stairs. We have hand rails on both sides so I didn't get injured.
Going on an amusement ride and getting off dizzy is fun but living with dizziness hour after hour can make life quite difficult.
