Endurance: Atlantic
Episode 3: It’s On
(action) *interview* [confessional]
Last time on Endurance: Atlantic
With the partner mission only hours away, everyone wanted to make the perfect list of teams. It got complicated when no one agreed on anything and things escalated from bad to worse. (Tonya and Bella yelling at each other and storming out of the cabin; going separate directions) Later at the mission a shocking twist was revealed. (JD: We pick partners different ways for different seasons remember. And this season…we’re leaving it up to fate.) (shocked faces, gasps, brown-haired girl crying)
After the teams have been formed who will be strong enough to push past the conflicts? Which teams will overcome and beat out the competition? (a boy and girl hugging) And whose partnerships will collapse? (a boy in blue shirt sitting with his head in his hands) Find out today on Endurance: Atlantic.
Theme song:
20 contestants (the kids climbing up the side of a rocky cliff)
12 challenges (girl in yellow catching a ball, 4 boys fighting over something in the sand)
1 ocean (girl falling in the water-AHH)
Endurance: Atlantic (crashing waves, logo)
JD: This season...we’re leaving it up to fate.
("gasp" "no way" " what?!", shocked and confused faces)
*Sandy*: (tears in her eyes) Great. Now things are gonna get even more mixed up. I was so happy with Ethan. And we started talking about stuff last night. Like what color we wanted and alliances. And even some strategies for temple!! What if I don’t get him...(crying) and he goes and tells his partner everything. It’ll be like how Conner turned on Darci. I don’t want to go home first.
JD: So here’s how we’re gonna do it. First off guys and girls will be seperated from each other like in E2. So you won’t know who your partner is until after the mission. Take a look over there (points to a spot about 80ft away). See that catapult. Well it’s gonna be launching colored football shaped-balls over here for you to catch. The first person to get the ball gets that color. Once you catch a ball you can go stand on your triangle. And there’s a little twist to make things interesting. The last person to get a ball won’t get a pyramid piece. So that team will be at a disadvantage right from the start. Don’t let it be your team. On the other hand the team that catches the first ball will get 2 pieces. They will get a automatic advantage. Alright you know what’s at stake here so let’s get started. Girls to the right and guys to the left.
(everyone standing on the beach facing the launchers)
JD: Ready? (YEAH!) First balls...launched!
(orange balls flys through the air)
(boys: all run towards it and jump for it, falls right between Kevin and Greg, Kyle dives on the ground first and army crawls out of the crowd with the ball clutched to him) (girls: all run under it, all jump for it, Tonya easily out-reaches everyone else and catches it)
JD: Alright winners go stand on your triangles. Congrats your team has two pieces. Ready? (everyone brushing the sand off them) Second balls...launched!
(blue balls fall shorter than the orange ones did)
(boys: sprint to the ball but Greg was in front and catches it like a pro-footballer) (girls: started running backwards before the ball was even launched, so it falls into the sand and Bella was closest, gets it with almost no competition)
JD: That was a easy catch for both sides. Nice work. (Bella looking extremely excited runs over to her blue triangle, Greg stands on his also looking proud) Third balls...launched.
(green balls fly and go right in the middle of the pack)
(boys: jump for it, Dave half catches it but it gets knocked out, all the guys (except Walt) roll around in the sand wrestling it from each other, Ethan stands up and pulls it from Brent/Dave, and runs away) (girls: Sandy kinda shoves Kelly Ann and Heather, girls all jump for it, bounces off their hands, falls in the sand, Sandy, Sophia and Heather dive on it, Sandy: I need this. Pleaseeeeee., the three of them still wrestle for it. Sandy gets it and curls around it, JD: Okay girls she’s got it., Sandy smiles and walks over to her green triangle)
JD: Wow, that was a intense battle for the green team. Good job both of you. Fourth balls...launched!
(red balls go really far-everyone sprints backwards)
(boys: Walt doesn’t run far enough and can’t reach it even when he jumps, Brent runs too far and slips in the sand when he tries to reverse himself, Kevin out-jumps Dave and catches it) (girls: all jump for it, goes right through Kelly Ann’s hands, and into Heather’s, Heather tucks it into her stomach)
JD: Nice work, both sides. (they go stand on their triangles, Brent spits out a mouthful of sand) There’s only 3 balls left. Fifth balls...launched!
(gray balls fall right in the middle again)
(boys: start to run for it then all back away, it falls in the sand, they glance at each other anxiously, Brent: I don’t want it. Walt: Me either.)
*Dave*: That gray ball...yeah that was a hard one. No one wanted to be on gray. It’s bad luck. But then again there were only 2 more balls after it. And you didn’t want to get the last one. So...you’re kinda stuck.
(girls: saw it was gray and froze, it fell in the middle between them, they all stare at it then at each other, Grace: You can take it (to Sophia) Sophia: No thanks. Kelly Ann: I don’t want it either.)
JD: This is very amusing for me. Both sides have let the ball just drop in the sand. And it seems that no one wants to step up and take it.
-3 minutes later-
(boys: staring at each other, Dave steps forward and takes it. Dave: I got it. You’re welcome., Brent and Walt pat him on the back, Brent: Thanks man. I owe you.)
*Brent*: I know I can beat out Walt. So it was a win-win for me. Don’t get gray and don’t be last.
JD: A boy has finally picked up their ball, but the girls are still debating.
(girls: Kelly Ann: Fine I’ll take it., Sophia and Grace hug her, Grace: I won’t let you get sent home first.)
*Sophia*: Kelly Ann is such a sweetheart. I knew she would cave-in and take gray. She’ll defiantly be easy to manipulate in the future.
JD: Alright after all that we got our gray team. Now this next ball will be the last team to get a pyramid piece. Good luck to you final four. Sixth balls...launched.
(purple balls fly a little deep)
(boys: Brent sprints faster than Walt and gets the purple ball with no pressure) (girls: Grace and Sophia both sprint for it, Grace gets in front of Sophia but it bounces off the tips of her fingers, Sophia snatches it out of the air and jumps up and down in excitement)
JD: (Sophia runs to her triangle and hugs Kelly Ann) Good job. Final ball is launched.
(yellow balls shoot to the middle)
(Walt lets it fall and walks over to pick it up) (Grace wipes her eyes as she looks in the air, catches the ball no problem)
JD: Great job everyone. That’s all the colors. Now for the fun part. Revealing the partners. Would the girl with the orange ball come over to guys side.
(Tonya walks in front of the divider)
Kyle: (smiles) Cool.
JD: Alright the first team of Endurance: Atlantic is Kyle and Tonya on orange. How do you like that?
Tonya: It’s not what we had on the list. But it’s okay. I know Kyle’s strong and so am I.
Kyle: We’ll be a good team.
JD: Excellent. Alright now how ‘bout the blue team get their first look at each other.
(Bella walks out with her blue ball-Greg’s face falls, they half-hug)
JD: Neither of you seem very happy about this.
Greg: We’ll be fine. (Bella nods)
JD: Okay...(unconvinced). Now let’s meet the green team.
(Ethan looks over anxiously at the divider as Sandy walks around it)
Sandy: (screams excitedly and runs over) Oh my gosh. YES!!
Ethan: (catches her as she throws herself into a hug-smiling) Dude. I hoped you remembered.
JD: I’m not going to ask if you two are happy about this. (everyone laughs) What were you hoping she remembered, Ethan?
Ethan: We were talking yesterday about stuff. And we said we wanted to be on the green team. And so today I only went for the green ball and I’m excited that she waited too. (his arm around Sandy)
JD: Oh I see. You guys twisted fate to work in your favor. And it paid off. Let’s see about the next team. Red girl would you please come over here.
(Heather walks over with her ball)
Kevin: Nice! (hugs her)
Heather: I had this weird feeling I was getting you. (laughing-hugging back)
JD: You two seem pretty good with this partnership. (they nod) Okay what about the gray team. No one wanted to be on this team it seemed like. Gray girl come on over and meet your partner.
(Kelly Ann walks over and smiles when she sees Dave on gray)
Dave: Aw of course the Sweetheart of Georgia took it. (smiling as he hugs her)
Kelly Ann: Yep. (smiles- hug back)
JD: Another happy team right? ("Yeah") Since there’s only two teams left to reveal why don’t both girls come over at the same time.
(Grace and Sophia come over with their colored balls and over to their triangles, Sophia gives a little half smile)
JD: You two girls seem disappointed and so do you boys.
Brent: Yeah I really wanted Tonya, but she’s on orange. (sigh) But me and Sophia will do good.
Sophia: Yeah and I wanted someone closer to my age, It’s alright though. Fate put us together, so it must have some plan for us.
JD: That’s a good way of thinking. You’ll have the whole day to just relax, hang out, and get to know your partners. I’ll come by later to hand out your pieces and see how you are all doing. Enjoy the day. It’s supposed to be a beautiful and sunny.
Sandy: Thanks JD.
(kids all walk back to the cabins)
[Grace]: I’m on the yellow team. No complaints about that except that I was last which means no piece. Not really that big of a deal though. But my partner is...Walt. Many MANY complaints about that. He’s so annoying. No one around here likes him very much cus he never talks. So now I’m gonna have to go try to communicate with him. Should I go phone Star Trek to come interpret or the chess club or something?! UGHHHH!
(in the girls cabin Grace on a bunkbed across from Sandy and Heather)
Grace: Why didn’t I just take gray? If I did then I woulda got to be with Dave. Which was exactly who I wanted. Stupid Kelly Ann. I’m so mad at her.
(Sandy and Heather look at each other with raised eyebrows)
Sandy: Kelly Ann took it cus you and Sophia didn’t want it. She did you two a favor so don’t take it out on her. (Grace started to say something but Sandy just talked over her) ANDDDD Walt didn’t want you either. He wanted Kelly Ann or me.
Grace: (shocked) What?! No way. I thought he didn’t care who he got. He told Sophia to write anyone on the list thingy.
Sandy: Yeah cus he didn’t want to cause any more drama. He’s a smart and funny kid. Just try to talk to him. You’d be surprised.
Grace: Easy for you to say. You’ve got your perfect little team. Why don’t you go and talk to Ethan.
(Sandy gets up says something like I’m done and walks out)
Heather: Geez Grace. You honestly haven’t given Walt a try. And you’re not the only one unhappy with their teammate. Bella and Greg are pretty pissed about it too. I’m gonna go talk to Kevin. I’m done trying to help you out. Friendships are important in this game too you know. Not just getting the best partner. (she walks away)
[Heather]: Some people here are like so selfish. When something doesn’t go their way they just blow up at anyone. I’m hoping that Sophia or Grace go home first. We really don’t need that kind of annoyance here.
(over in the boys loft- Kyle, Tonya, Bella, Kelly Ann, and Brent)
Tonya: So has Greg said anything to you since the mission, Bella?
Bella: Nope. He just grabbed his shirt and walked off. When I came in here he was just about to leave. And he just looked at me and kept walking out the door.
Kelly Ann: Aww Bella. I’m sorry. He’ll get over it. You’re a strong girl.
Tonya: Yeah I mean you got the second ball.
Bella: I guess...you got the first one though. You’ve got like super volleyball legs. You jumped so high.
Tonya: (laughing) Yeah that mission was pretty easy for me.
Sophia: (climbing up the ladder) Well it sucked for me. Cus I’m the shortest one here.
Bella: Nuh uh. I’m shorter than you.
Sophia: You got the second ball though I got second to last. Big difference.
Kelly Ann: Not really cus you both got one piece and a color.
Sophia: True. So Brent I was wondering if you wanted to come talk or something?
Brent: Sure.
(they leave the cabin)
Kelly Ann: Poor Brent. He really likes you Tonya.
Tonya: (turning a little pink) No he doesn’t.
Kyle: He so does. He liked you from the start. You were the only one he cheered for in the right to stay.
Bella: Yeah and he picked you over me for the list remember. He flat out told me, No I want Tonya.
Tonya: (blushing more) Guys stop it. Why would he like me? We just met like yesterday.
Bella: Just saying. You never know what could happen in Maine...(smiling)
Tonya: Okay Bella, got it (laughing). Is everyone off talking with their partners? It’s very quiet around here.
Kelly Ann: Probably. I should go find Dave.
Bella: I wasn’t surprised at all. That you two got put together on gray. You are the nicest girl and he’s the nicest guy. So you both took the ball to save the other people from "gray’s curse. Don’t worry though. There’s no way you’re getting sent to temple first.
Kelly Ann: (climbing down the ladder) Thanks. And I wouldn’t worry too much about Greg. Dave is probably talking to him about you right now.
(Dave and Greg on the porch)
Greg: Why Bella? She’s the youngest girl here. And she’s sooo annoying.
Dave: I’m pretty sure Tonya is 13 too.
Greg: Yeah but Tonya woulda been better. She’s so focused on this game. She’ll be tough to beat. Especially now that she’s with Kyle.
Dave: We should think about giving them the samadhi if either of us win tomorrow.
Greg: I’m not gonna win thanks to Bella. And no offense but Kelly Ann isn’t one of the strongest girls here either.
Dave: Yeah I know. But I’m glad that I got her. She gets along with everyone. So since we aren’t as much of a physical threat I think we can go really far. And you’re my closest friend here so hopefully I can get you on everyone’s good side too. Oh hey Kelly Ann. (as she walks over to join them)
Kelly Ann: Hey. Whatcha talking about?
Greg: Bella and who should get the samadhi.
Kelly Ann: Bella’s not as bad as everyone seems to think. She’s just very energetic. Which probably will be great for you in missions Greg.
Greg: Pshhh.
Kelly Ann: Why don’t you think she’s athletic? Is it cus she’s so small. Don’t let that fool you. She runs cross country so she’s got the stamina. (Greg looks shocked to hear that) Just give her a chance. That’s what everyone around here needs to do. I guess Grace isn’t giving Walt a chance either.
Dave: Oh really. I’m actually glad that I didn’t get her now. Sandy came out of the cabin earlier saying that she was so done trying to be nice to people that don’t deserve it. Then Heather followed and she was pretty upset too. She said something about Grace being ridiculous and then went over to confessional.
Greg: Hmm well hopefully she caused a lot of drama and she’ll go home before me.
(Dave and Kelly Ann laugh)
(Sophia and Brent over on the beach)
Brent: Sorry I acted like I didn’t want you. I think we’ll be a okay team.
Sophia: Yeah me too. I think we have as good a chance as anyone to win this. I mean no one except Sandy and Ethan really have a edge on us. Since they got to talk all yesterday and they were like super happy to get each other. But everyone else is pretty much in the same boat as us.
Brent: (nods) So do you think the mission tomorrow will be a Endurance or Temple?
Sophia: I think Endurance but we might want to think about which teams we would send just in case.
Brent: I really have no idea except yellow. Everyone else it would be hard to send up.
Sophia: Mhmm. This whole game is hard. Seriously there hasn’t been one easy part yet.
(the sun starts to set a little, over by the team piece poles)
JD: Good evening everyone. Well it was pretty stressful earlier but hopefully by now you’ve absorbed what happened. And are getting to know your partners a little better. Ready to get your first pyramid pieces? ("Yeah") Mkay orange you were first and so you get two pieces. Luck and Leadership. You had the luck to get the extra bonus piece. And you two showed great leadership at the mission too. You lead by example. Even though this wasn’t the partnership either of you had in mind you looked at the positives and accepted it.
(Kyle and Tonya each take a piece and hang it up)
*Kyle*: It feels great to have such a early lead. Hopefully it won’t put a target on ours backs.
JD: Blue team your first piece is Commitment. I noticed that you two weren’t happy about you’re team. It will take a lot of commitment-to the challenges and each other-to push past your differences and unite as a team.
(Greg takes it and Bella follows and helps hang it up)
JD: Ethan and Sandy you guys get the Knowledge piece. You demonstrated a lot of knowledge today as you outwitted the random rate of your teams. You remembered your conversation about team colors and that worked to your advantage. Congrats, here you go.
(Ethan takes it and Sandy (smiling) helps hang it up)
*Sandy*: I’m so proud of us. We were determined to get each other as partners and we did. We can do anything.
JD: Next we have the Heart piece for red. Like Franke said in E4. It’s red and so are you. (laughing) You guys could have just given up today at the challenge. But you had the heart to stick it out. And it paid off. Here.
(Heather takes it and they both hang it up)
JD: Come here gray team. You guys get the Courage piece. It took a lot of courage to step up and take the gray ball that no one else wanted.
(everyone cheering for them as they hang it up)
*Kelly Ann*: I have a good feeling for this season’s gray team. I don’t think we’ll get sent home first.
JD: I have one more piece and that’s for the purple team. It’s Discipline. Like the blue team you two didn’t seem very happy. It’s going to take a lot of discipline to decide to make this partnership work together as one. Good luck to you.
(Brent takes it and they hang it up-with a little difficulty)
Brent: Man this is a challenge by itself. (everyone laughs)
JD: Alright got it in there. Yellow sorry no piece for you. But don’t count yourselves out. You still have a good chance of coming back to win Endurance: Atlantic. Speaking of which. I bet you guys would like to know where the winners will be traveling this season right? (YEAH!, cheering and clapping) The team that wins will be spending 2 weeks in Belize Central America. It’s located right on the Gulf of Mexico. They will get to snorkel in the second largest barrier reef in the entire world. They will also get to tour the ancient ruins of the Mayas. For a few days they will travel inland to the city of Corazol where there is a children’s orphanage. They are big fans of Endurance down there and are just dying to meet the winners. Later the children will escort you to a local sugarcane festival. Where you can take part in a traditional dances and sports and learn the ways of the Belizeans. There’s so much to see and experience in Belize. The winners will have the time of their lives. So there you have it. You’ve got your teams and your pieces and the grand prize in mind-Endurance: Atlantic has really kicked into action. (WOO!, cheering and clapping) I’ll see you guys tomorrow morning to discuss your first mission.
[Tonya and Bella]: Tonya: I’m gonna win that trip. Bella: No way girlfriend. I got this in the bag. Tonya: In your dreams sista’. Bella: Either way Grace and Sophia are going DOWNN. Tonya: Fo sho’. Down to the ground. Get on the floor. wika wika word. Bella: Umm no. Don’t ever do that again. (leaves confessional) Tonya: She’s just jealous. (sticks out her tongue) This game is ON yo!
