A gun bill that passed the legislature and is on its way to Governor Sebelius is drawing some national attention.

The bill, which allows individuals to own machine guns, sawed-off shotguns and silencers, was a topic of discussion on national television and radio news programs Thursday night and Friday.

The Senate approved the bill Thursday on a 28-9 vote. The House passed it last week 105-18.

The bill now goes to the Governor. Spokeswoman Nicole Corcoran says that Sebelius will have to review it before deciding whether to sign it.

State law limits the possession of silencers, sawed-off shotguns and automatic weapons. In December, the attorney general said part of the law is so restrictive that only law enforcement agencies can possess silencers. That means no dealer can have them in Kansas, even to deliver to those agencies.

Supporters say the bill also would benefit gun collectors.

We can own any weapon that the NFA and BATF allows here in Colorado. Just last week we had a Annual Machine gun shoot  up by Hudson, CO.  I have attended one of those and it is a blast. (Be sure to take the best hearing protection with you)
Here is hoping that Kansas joins us in allowing their citizens to express their rights as they choose.

Minnesota can own these things already. We are still a free people here and not subjects of our own government.

WOW.  I wish I lived in your MInnesota.  My Minnesota is much different from yours.  Maybe just in the city you can have this stuff.  Out in the sticks you can't hve such things unless you are law-enforcement.  Let me know if this has changed.  I may be mistaken,  I hope this is true.

You are mistaken, In Minnesota you can own a registered Machinegun as long as its pre 1980 something. I have a couple freinds with collections and I've gone out shooting with them, thats how I know. Bills gun shop in Robonsdale has machineguns you can rent to shoot at thier range, you may want to contact them for details. I had a Thompson M1A1 about 20yrs ago so I'm a little rusty on the hoops you have to jump through to own something you have a right to own anyway. Government has no legal right nor Constitutional power to ban you from owning a machinegun. I know I sure didn't give it to them.

Update.

Starting July 1st, Kansans will be able to own machine guns, other fully automatic weapons, sawed-off shotguns and silencers. Governor Sebelius Monday signed a bill legalizing their possession.

Supporters say collectors are likely to be the main beneficiaries. They note that machine guns typically cost at least $20,000. Purchasers still must comply with federal restrictions, which include two background checks and approval by the local sheriff.

Good to hear from Muskrat that the bill passed. Although there are those who argue that you cannot hunt with machine guns and they have no place in the hands of law-abiding citizens, I counter that only experience with machine guns makes you an experienced machine gunner able to clear jams, reset gas valves and headspace, and competently cleaning to keep that machine gun functional. Yes, we can give training to new troopers but when the fan is blowing chaos every which way, I would much rather know that the men in my stick can make these machine guns run efficiently.

The anti-gun Dems can go stick their head up their rear if that is what pleases them.

Since when did the Democrats ever support having fun ..they want us to be miserable in any way and form so we depend on them just like a diaper.

It is long past time to start sending photos of young boys and girls shooting machine guns with big smiles on their faces to those grim Democrats. Adults having fun just dismays the Dems but those youngsters are in the government propaganda schools so must be corrected soon.... Take a youngster shooting next chance you get, even if it is machine guns. Colorado just had the Cheyenne Wells shoot last weekend, and a huge turnout to see and try some of the legal machine guns and .50 caliber rifles. I saw a lot of smiles, and some youngsters learning the tricks to keeping an automatic on target.
