After losing internet for a week I logged in to find out that MSN is closing groups. I can't say it surprises me. I thought I'd bring it up here for discussion, for anyone still active enough to notice. ;)

Shall we move to this Multiply thing, try the Windows Live groups (which will likely mean recreating the site from scratch) or close the group altogether? I don't know anything about Multiply yet, haven't had a chance to look into it. Any suggestions?

we could try the multiply thing. I thought they could easily transfer your group though. If its to much of a pain then we dont have to.

I've joined Multiply to see what it's all about. It's a social networking site like MySpace or Facebook. There is a section called Groups where (obviously) people can create groups based on common interests, but it's nothing like MSN groups. There is a blog, which means ALL posts will basically be in one long continuous thread. It will transfer all the pictures, I think, but judging from the looks of other groups, it won't be possible to keep anything near the same layout as we have here. No individual location pages or message boards.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it: search the internet for anogther suitable site for the group. We have till February. It's not much time, but it might be enough if we work together. As a last resort I'll move us to Multiply at least so we can continue to coordinate and see if it's possible to continue elsewhere.

I won't deny I'm very unhappy with this whole thing. I have three groups here on MSN. One of them is just a storage site, and I haven't even used it in years, but it has literally thousands of pictures stored in it. The other two are the GTI and Anthaliron, and I've put a great deal of work into developing their pages.

here's an option, move from one to the other. I've seen Yahoo groups. While we wont be able to have our layout the same, there is an area to store a plethora of pictures.

We could also look at http://groups.google.com/ to see how it is

Community Feedback has researched a number of different options to MSN Groups. They have a listing here - Alternatives to MSN Groups Only a few of them however offer to transfer the site in it's entirety. Otherwise you'll be doing things by hand unfortunately. However, saving the HTML for the pages and what not isn't too difficult. But there won't be anything like MSN Groups again.

Also, not trying to put in a shameless plug or anything, but if you would like to at least just keep the Role Play going and have a place to transfer all your posts, my site The World of Role Play is offering to host your Forum Based RPs. At the moment, we cannot offer any pages or anything, but the forum we use (phpBB) has quite good features and alot of the information you have in groups can be transferred in some form.

Well, best of luck to you all!

We'll be moving to that site temporarily. It's a message board, but it has capabilities that other message boards don't. They say they can transfer the whole site as-is, and I'm waiting to see how that works with another h\group before I do it with the GTI. One way or another, I hope to have the GTI transferred there by the end of next week.

I say the move is temporary, because I will be creating a website that combines my two roleplaying groups, Anthaliron and the GTI, into one site. Don't worry, the GTI will have its own section of pages. I do have help, but it may take a while, but the site I mentioned above will be a good short-term fix.

Are there any objections to the Golden Tiger Inn officially becoming part of Anthaliron, while still retaining its autonomy in the rp world?

I'll be starting out on a free host, and if things work out well, moving to a pay host from there.

There's the new site, if anyone wants to take a look. I haven't finished with it yet, though, so please bear with me. With two small children and a (temporarily) shared computer, I don't get as much computer time as I'd like. I should still have it all set by the end of the week without too much trouble. I'll send out a group announcement here to let everyone know. You'll have to join Aimoo for now.
