I have been unemployed now for almost 2 months and have applied for a number of jobs both in teaching and outside of it. Today I have completed another application and will send it off this afternoon. To say that I am becoming frustrated is genuinely an understatement. I am becoming depressed by the whole situation and thank god for the support of Rose who has been my rock! One small light in the darkness was that on February the 11th, The Sunday Age newspaper here in Melbourne published my poem Though You're Not Here in its M Magazine supplement as part of its Valentine's Day feature. After penning poetry and other writings for some 40 odd years, this was the first time anything of mine has ever been published. I suppose that I am grateful for small mercies - and - trying to remain positive; I note that Van Gogh never sold a painting in his lifetime ( these days his paintings auction for MILLIONS). Vincent: This World was Never Meant for One as Beautiful as YOU. God Bless, Aus |

Heya John, long time no poking head through door I know! Each day seems to pass with alarming speed so I must admit it is nice to take five and post a reply! How cool is it to have your poem published? Huge big congrats I wish I'd bought the paper to see it in print!!! Is your poem on the site here? I'm gonna go looking!!!!! I have been in a boat similar to yours in the past and can fully understand your frustration. The only thing I can offer is to remain positive. Try to picture yourself in that job you want, spend a few minutes each day feeling like you have the job. Spend each day as though you have that job, get up at the time you would normally have to, stick to a routine of being employed!! Might sound a bit odd but if we keep ourselves from 'feeling' unemployed then we won't be jobless for too long. So chin up and be grateful for what you do have and the things you seek will come.
Love Bren aka Meme (sounding a bit like she's spent too many hours on a mountain top!!) xx |

John - don't give up hope re the job position. I haven't worked since the children were born, and only tried to get back when they were in secondary school - no go. Been out of it too long, they say... I haven't given up, just gone back to school. Good luck, and congrats on the poem! |

Hi John, I spoke to you shortly after the poem was published but congrats again ... it's amazing to see 'that' poem in print. Don't lose hope with the job hunt. I'm positive you will find something soon. Been there myself - I know it can take time. Two months is still a short time ... if you think about the time it takes for applications to be processed, interviews to be held etc. Hugs, Alex |
