I just happened to stumble upon this message board! I have 1 Thai that I've had for 8 years, he's my pride and joy and was a rescue dog that has become a wonderful member of our family. Cowboy is 10 yrs old but still going like he's a pup.
We are looking into getting another TRD pup in the near future but I'm having a hard time finding a good breeder in the United States (preferably the Southeast). Anyone have any good breeder suggestions?

Thanks!

Hello and Welcome Thaidogcowboy!!!

Would love to hear where you got your 8 year old boy. Can you post some photos?

James, who is an assistant manager on this list can recommend a good breeder for you.

Well he was 1 1/2 yrs when I got him, abused and tied to a tree. The rope around his neck had worn away his hair and skin :( Poor guy! A friend of my dad's was a Thai rescuer and she had me come over and meet him, it was love at first site. I was always told that he would never be allow around children or other dogs because his abuse made him aggressive. 8 years later he's a totally sweetie and sleeping on my daughters bed, not a mean bone in his body.

I'll have to see if I can find a good picture of him online, he has an awesome coat and a very nice ridge! Never had a health problem.

Dear Cowboy,

We have a couple of beautiful black females that are about 9 weeks old. They have needle ridges and short, silky coats and really love to be with their people. This was the first breeding for our dogs and it turned out quite well with all puppies having very friendly personalities. We expect to have another litter in about a year, but will base future litters on demand. This littler gave us a blue male, silver female, and chocolate male to go along with the black females. The father is chocolate and the mother is blue, with champion lines on the father's side. We are located in Southern California and would be happy to send you photos of dad, mom, and the kids.

All the best,

Rose and Dean

P.S. The members on this message board are very supportive and informative. Feel free to check in and post often.

Thats quite a rescue story Thaidogcowboy!
It is wonderful to hear how loving your dog is now. I have two rescues that I adore.
Rose does have some really nice pups and she is not that far from you!

Hope to see that photo of your boy soon.

Here's a picture of my boy, it's not a very good one but it's all I have on the computer right now. And forgive his eyes, the flash made them wonky

Awhhh, what a great boy Cowboy looks to be!
Thanks so much for posting this photo. He is a blue!
Handsome dog. Do you know anything about his
family pedigree? If he is 10 years old, he would have been
born about 1996. So rare a breed in the US, makes
me curious.

Take care!

I'm not sure about his bloodline, I do know that my parents have his uncle (Rex) who is also a blue but was born ridgeless (also a rescue)
Between myself, my sister and my parents we have had 7 TRD since about 1997, all of who have been rescues except for a Black that my parents have who was a show dog.

Hi and welcome! Mr Thaidogcowboy.
Im Tina from Sweden (I must expalain because of my poor english, LOL!!)

7 rescued dogs is a great job. Thank you for helping TRDs in America. Its scary there are so many in the Southeast of USA....

Hope its ok to ask,
Why are you looking for a breeder, theres still a lot of dogs in shelters/rescues...
Im shure someone here can give you the adress to internet sites where TRDs are listed, I think Cathy knows about some dogs too.

Thanks for showing your cute Cowboy dog,
Please tell us a little about your familys rescue work,
I want to know as much as possible about TRDs temperament and why they are going to shelters/rescues.

I have been in Thailand this winther and I feel they have less temperament issues in the breed there than rest of the world!!!

Kind regards Tina

Tina -

I would actually love to keep rescuing TRD but I've never had a TRD puppy that I could raise myself and having a hand in how there are going to turn out. With rescues you have to take what you get and hope the person that had them before didn't abuse them so much that there is nothing to work with.
Plus I have 3 small children, I had Cowboy before they were born and bringing them into the family wasn't a big deal and Cowboy loves them. But a dog that may be aggressive is not something I'm willing to work with until my children are bigger (does that make sense?)

I think one of the biggest reason TRD are going to rescues and shelters is because alot of people jump into buying one because they are unique and different without really knowing what they are in for. They are a dog that needs alot of attention and instruction and people get them, realize that and then send the dogs on their way. It's not right but it's what happens.

My parents have 3 TRDs, my husband and myself have 1 and my sister and her husband have 1 for right now. My step-dad worked with Thai rescue a few years back which is how we came into our dogs that we have now. I have seen all temperments in these dogs too but all of them have proved to be wonderful family dogs.

Hi, ThaidogcowGIRL?

Good reasons,
Just be shure your kids can leave the adorable pup alone when its sleeping. ;-)
What are you looking for; colour, male or female pup, for breeding purpose or pet?

Kind regards Tina

Yes, I guess I would be a Cowgirl lol

Oh yes, my children are definitely schooled in the importance of leaving the dogs alone when the time calls for it. But they love to help with feeding and brushing and of course love to play with them when need be. And our Thai is pretty protective as well, he can usually be found lounging with the kids.

We are looking for a blue male, just for a pet. I have no desire to breed, I just like to appreciate the beauty and intelligence of the breed but I have no idea what it takes to breed a dog successfully so I will leave that to the experts. :)
