I recently had a problem with the identification of various inch-pattern barrels in my parts collection.  I consulted our resident New Zealand guru, Kevin Adams, and he came back with some good information.  I've posted it here for general information.
  Proof marking:
      Crown
 Crossed Flags
          P

 BRITISH L1A1 RIFLES

Have manufacture and part numbers on them, e.g.:
 B59  960-2006
 On the gas block:
 960-2266
    B 59
      /|\ (broad arrow proof)

The maker and year can be differ.  There are other proof and inspection marks.

 CANADIAN C1 RIFLES
Have a minimal amount of markings on the RH barrel flat there will be the 4 point maple leaf proof mark (same as seen on the Canadian lower receiver).
    _/\_
     \    /
      P
There is NO shoulder on the barrel behind the gas block, like there is on the British and Australian L1A1 barrels.

 INDIAN 1A1 RIFLES
Indian barrels have a serial number and part number on them e.g
 BH5194         ICR 1232 (part No.)
The gas block foresight ears are short like a metric, but are open.  The gas block has the part number on it.
 ICR 1322
That's the whole story on how to tell one from the other.
