The Regiment 's origin goes back to July, 1940. Volunteers were sought to raise personnel for a new Unit, the 2/3 Anti-tank Regiment. The Regiment sailed to the Middle east in Nov 1940, and played a pivotal role in the defence of Tobruk. For its part in the defence of Tobruk, they were awarded the now famous T shaped colour patch, which is worn on the puggeree of the slouch hat. In May 42, the Regiment also participated in the El Alamein battles, in which helped turn the tide of the war in North Africa. For the remainder of the war, we fought closer to home against the Japs in New Guinea and Borneo. The Regiment was disbanded in May 46, and reactivated as field artillery in 1948. Today the Regiment is strong and ready to serve Australia whenever called. Currently the Regiment has a contingent off to Malaysia, and we have sent (or sending) members to Iraq, East Timor, Canada, USA, and Thailand. We also exercise throughout the country, from the steaming tropics to frozen Puckapunyal in wintery Victoria. |
