Who was Gib Boxall? Just have a squizz at this, taken from The Canadians At War 1939/45, Vol 2. Hard to beleive so many personal sacrifices during the Normandy Invasion, this one noted in the article. Lest we forget.
This soldier was from my old infantry Regiment, The Regina Rifles, who hit the beaches on 06 Jun 44. Whilst returning to Canada on an Exercise Longlook in 2000, as a member of the Australian Army this time, I visited this Regiment, in the Regina Garrison on Elphinstone Street, noting a female Corporal in passing, with the same sur name, Boxall. I asked her if she was related to Gib Boxall. She looked at me dumbfounded, and just smiled, wondering who this Sergeant with the 'bunny-cam' on was. To this day I still wonder if she was a relitive of Gib. If she is, she has some big boots to fill. |
