Earl Meahan was born in 1891, and joined the Canadian Expeditionary Force in 1916, at Elrose, Saskatchewan, which was where he farmed. In 1917, he was in France and Flanders, participating in many battles. He belonged to the CMGC, (the machine gun corps), and was a master on the .303 Vickers, sending many Huns to their death. Earl had many close calls, and was nearly killed at Ypres. He was lucky, and survived the war, marrying a girl from London, and bringing her back to Elrose. Elsie was never to return to England. Earl lived a full life, dying at 100, in 1991 (full military funeral), and his wife Elsie, died at 99, in 1993. They are buried both at Elrose. They never had any children. I had met them both before their death. Earl had painted their house at 95, and even at 98, Elsie could play the piano like a pro. My sister has their piano. |
