Lily van der Woodsen had invited Jolene to Serena's little birthday bash, under the assumption that she was still a friend of her son's, and Manhattan's most dramatic supermodel seized the opportunity to arrive and rub it in his face. As far as the birthday girl was concerned, Jolene had made peace with her despite Georgina's constant protests. Naturally, this would infuriate the devil's advocate but Jolene didn't see much harm in it. It was an undeniable fact that the Queen made up her own mind about things and from what she could tell, Georgie was simply envious of Serena and her effortless charm. And although Jolene was partly using her newfound "friendship" with S to get to her brother, she appreciated the fact that Serena remained nice to her despite her constant taunting.
"Jolene!" a voice called from behind her. It was Kati Farkas rushing towards her but in the elegance she carried herself with this evening, it seemed like she was simply walking. Isabell Coates was not too far behind her. "Is it true that you and Georgina are at war now?" blurted out Blair's minion with a smirk upon her face.
"Excuse me?" Jolene snapped back, the expression on her face wasn't too pleasant. Not wanting to face the catty twosome at the moment, she twirled around in her blue strapless Dior dress that hugged her rather gaunt figure and emphasized on her barely there breasts.
"You heard me, you whore," Kati continued using a low but hostile tone, enough to get Jolene's attention again.
The supermodel wondered what came over these two suddenly but didn't care to ask out loud, answers always came easily to her. Facing the minions again, she disguised her smirk quite well into a smile as Lily van der Woodsen's eyes had suddenly been set on her for that mere moment and she was well aware of it. "The two of you really need to stop reading gossip girl and get a grasp on real life. But since you bitches have that curiousity which kills a cat, I'll let you in on the secret. Georgina and my relationship is just fine. We totally love each other."
The girls let out a soft chuckle with prompts Jolene to roll her eyes.
"Oh, and since this is Serena's party and she's like, so deserving of peace, I'd suggest that the two of you try and refrain from causing any drama."
"o0o0o," Isabel chimes in dramatically. "The plot thickens."
"Why are you so defensive of Serena van der Woodsen all of a sudden. Does the queen support Serena now?"
"Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama are practically the same to me," says Jolene upon turning on her Jimmy Choos to make a quick escape from these two hags but before she can, she twists her head back for second and concludes, "I know why you two are here."
Not even catching the expressions on their faces after that, she hurries away but something vibrates against her ankle. It's her cellphone, conveniently placed over the straps of her heels a la Hilary Duff in a cinderella story, which makes abrupt movement and slowly slides off the straps and into her thin long hands. Glancing at the call display, she sees an unidentified caller trying to reach her a such a wrong time. Who else could it be, she thought. Georgina Sparks wasn't invited to Serena's small get together because of the little dinner she had at the van der Woodsen household prior to this day, one which she recapped with Jolene and then assured her that she was the last hope she had as a friend. Maybe Jolene was also using this opportunity to spy on Serena and report back to her arch nemisis, or not.
Flipping the phone open, Jolene grumbles into it. "I'm at a party!" she said irritated.
"My bad," said the voice on the other end, not sounding like Georgina at all. For a second, Jolene looked perplexed until she finally recognized who it was.
"Zarah?" she called, this time sweetly.
"Yeah?" confirmed Zee.
"Oh, I'm sorry," continued Jolene in her sweetest voice. "I thought you were someone else. I guess I should program your number into this phone huh?" she asked, her hand over her head. The last thing she wished to do was make Zarah feel like she had a problem with her. That only led to suspicions and would soon end up with Zarah finding out about Jolene and her dad.
"It's cool. I didn't know you were busy, I just wanted to call and see if you recognized this number I had gotten a weird text from."
Jolene squints her eyes for a second, trying to come up with some excuse or the other to bow out of that one as she didn't know what to do about it at the time. "You know what Zarah sweetie?" she responds in the same voice as before, no crack in it at all. "I'll totally come by your house later and talk to you about it then. Your dad will be home right?" she asks stupidly and then her hand automatically comes back and slaps her forehead. What the hell was she thinking asking that, she thought.
"Yeah." Zarah said plainly as though it was an everyday question.
"Okay doll Toodles!" Jolene suddenly exclaimed and then hung up. She quickly tucked the phone back where it came from but by then, someone else came her way. She spotted Eric in the distance, he wasn't exactly that far but it was obvious he was trying to keep away from her, especially with his girlfriend within a two mile radius. One thing was certain though, he couldn't keep his eyes off her. Perhaps it was the attraction he felt towards her or he just wanted to keep an eye on her incase she decided to jeapordize Serena's birthday. Sometimes she wished he would give her the benefit of the doubt. She now looked directly at him and they got caught up in each other's eyes but the expressions on each other's face gave away the fact that all wasn't gravy. Jolene immediately broke the stare down by gazing elsewhere and there, she found her jackpot.
Running swiftly towards the birthday girl, Jolene screamed her name sweetly. "Serenieee!"
The blonde immediately flipped her head in Jolene's direction as the green eyed brunette approached her and her boyfriend Nate.
"Serena!" she yelled again as though she had not heard her the first time. "omigod, it's your 18th birthday. Happy Birthday!" continued Jolene excitedly. She made she tilt her head to the side and from the corner of her eye, she caught Eric looking at them. This immediately put her in a good mood.
"Thanks," Serena responded but not as enthusiastic as Jolene. Actually, she was less than enthusiastic at the moment but managed to mask it with a smile just to seem courteous.
"I love your dress!" Jolene continued to be cheerful although she noted Serena's mood. She doubted the birthday girl would be rude to her and wanted to give her the gift the got. "It's ironic how you're wearing Chanel right now because I have something from Chanel for you."
Handing the birthday girl a pink box, Jolene waits for her to open it and then insists that she do it right that moment. Still managing to keep the smile on her face, Serena gently opens the box and finds..
A cream chanel flipbag made of ostrich leather, going for the retail price of nearly eight thousand dollars made it's way out of the box in Serena's hand. Even Nate seemed happy upon seeing it.
"Wow, thank you." Serena said sincerely this time.
"I so thought of you when seeing that bag and from then I just knew you had to have it." Jolene muttered. She looked at Serena and wondered, hoped that she could like her. This sudden need of approval came only because she knew that Jenny was more favored by the van der Woodsen's than she was and if she ever got into a relationship with Eric again, she knew it would be quite the challenge to impress them after her previous actions. "Enjoy." said Jolene before she turned away with an even bigger smile. She could hear Lily gushing over the bag from behind too.
Eric, however, was nowhere to be found and she wondered if he had managed to see that.
