Dear Beloved Ascending Human,

So many nature species have something to say to our ascending human brothers and sisters.  What does wolf have to say to our ascending humans today?  The wolf species is one that has been honored as “teachers�?in Native American tradition.  Teacher is one who shows another a potential path or direction within one’s journey that might not be available unless the teacher pointed it out as a possibility.  This is the concept of teacher within the unity paradigm, one who directs another towards his or her own path and truth.  Often students can also show the teacher another path that the teacher could likewise not see and is of their truth, and this is how the student becomes as much the teacher as the teacher.

In the genetics of all species is all knowledge; this is because genetics are holographic that this is so.  Holographic knowledge is infinite and interconnected with the Tao from which all consciousness extends from and goes home to when the creational dance is complete.  How can one therefore teach another anything if one already knows holographically all that there is to know?  Teaching in the current human paradigm is founded upon a loss of holographic knowledge, and in so losing such knowledge, one fails to remember enough to know or to evolve.  This is a sad thing for Wolf to bear witness too; however it is the result of the genetic manipulations of man himself who created a limited slave race in a laboratory.  The slave race lost the holographic interconnectedness to the rest of life, and therefore lost the innate knowledge necessary know or to evolve.

It is in the dance of the slaves that the concept of teacher became so distorted.  In present time teaching is associated with programming another with a particular set of beliefs that are then parroted by the student verbatim; this is not teaching from the viewpoint of Wolf, it is rather a form of control.  Under the control of the teacher the student loses his or her freewill choice of any path except the one that the teacher himself or herself is on.  One must follow the teacher or guru parroting their truth in hopes that they know where they are going.  What if the teacher or guru is as lost as oneself?  A bit problematic, and many reading this material may have followed one or more lost teachers in one’s own life experience thus far.  This is how the dance of the guru and devotee emerged in the human expression.

The guru takes of the knowledge of the devotee, and then sells it back at a price.  This is the unconscious dance of the guru.  The devotee had a truth; the truth had a particular path that would lead to evolution; the guru strips the devotee of his or her truth and then walks the path for the devotee beaconing him or her to follow.  In so doing, the guru also loses his or her truth, as the truth of another will never resonate with oneself.  The devotee also loses his or her truth, and must follow another rather than lead oneself down one’s own spiritual path of awakening and evolution.

This is not teaching in the view of wolf.  This is a form of manipulation in which one perceives another as knowing better than oneself.  If one’s own holographic knowledge lies within, and one already knows all, then how can another know better than oneself what one’s path may be?  Another cannot know; however in order to know one must have access to one’s holographic knowledge.  This is problematic if one’s ancestry was primarily of slave origin as one was severed therefore from one’s own holographic knowing.  This is where roughly 60% of the current human populace is beloved; unable to know, as the very means of knowing holographically has been lost through human manipulations to the DNA.  Such humans shall be cleansed from earth in the times ahead.  The lineages of incoming children shall be increasingly restricted to those that retain holographic knowledge until after 2011, such lineages are the only available choices for all incoming births.  Therefore humans shall return to innate knowing and sensing that is holographically interconnected to earth and all species therein along with the Tao in the coming quarter century.

Teaching another who already has holographic knowledge is not the same as teaching one who has no knowledge.  Instead of controlling, one may awaken another to be able to attune to their knowledge from within.  Mila and Oa have taken the stance that this is what they are here for as facilitators of their Group Mastery Program.  Those in Group Mastery are only guided in a manner that leads to an internal state of knowingness.  In the internal knowing, one walks one’s own path.  Sometimes as this occurs, such students are turned onto a path of their own making, leaving the Group Mastery Program altogether.  This is because the journey has a different road and no longer parallels the group.  However Mila and Oa have fulfilled upon their purpose, which is to open the student up to their own knowing, from which they can then discern their own way in their own evolutionary journey.

It has taken a lot of internal change for Mila and Oa to direct in this manner.  For a long time, they too controlled their students.  As they made a large evolutionary leap after the end of the year 2001, the remaining patterns of such forms of control were released in their own fields and forms through their own evolution.  Therefore for those who are teachers, understand that the current modality of control as teacher is not wrong; it is just a part of the dance and a part of one’s own genetic make-up until it has been transcended.  If one has the path of teacher in ascension, one will evolve beyond control in due course.

One will at first attract students who wish to be controlled who partake in the dance until one or both has transcended.  This is the gift of the path of the ascension teacher, the ability to look in the mirror provided by one’s own students to see one’s own internal state of being, and then utilize the mirror to transcend one’s own unconscious patterns.  Mila and Oa have become fluid at this sort of work or they would have died long ago.  For the dance of control causes increasing attachment that only kills the form by snuffing out the life force rather than allowing for ascension.  Given that increasing life force is a prerequisite for ascension, ascension and control and the related attachment are at odds with one another.

As a human being, one has a lengthy history of attachment and control.  Such control began early in the dance of the human species as seeded upon earth from Sirius.  Therefore working one’s way out of the game of control as teacher is not an overnight process.  Understand also that for as much as one may control as teacher, one’s students also control the teacher.  As the dance changes through ascension, greater and greater freedom between the two emerges, and the dance changes to one of unity and honor as the foundation for teacher-student relations.

Unity and honor create a different dance for the teacher as well as the student.  For one, the two may view one another as equals, which perhaps even alters the word student and teacher within the vocabulary.  Mila altered the word student to “affiliate of our program�?long ago, as affiliate denoted greater equality in her estimation than the word student.  Mila also altered the word teacher to “director�?  One might say that Mila understood the requirement to move towards equality; however it has been a long and hard road from control to unity in her own organization, and the group has gone through many changes.

For one, there have been four separate and distinct organizations since 1998 when the group was launched.  Far more have left the group than remain, and few remain from the earlier days of the Spiritual School of Ascension.  This is the result of karmic completion in which the karma between Mila and Oa was fulfilled upon in their associations, along with group evolution.  Group evolution through ascension is a difficult task; for those who are unable to transcend the patterns that the group is transcending spin off to a new path of one’s own making.  This causes many comings and goings in their experience of group evolution within their organization.  However the success of SSOA speaks for itself; the group now holds all tri tones within the Language of Light and acts as a bridge for such tones to be administered by the Tao to the new consensus of ascending humans.

Many do not realize the special purpose that Mila and Oa and their organization hold.  However wolf and all nature kingdoms do understand and support their organization unconditionally as it is only as a map is carved for group ascension within the human species that humanity at large will ascend out of their destructive dance.  It is only as humans cease to destroy that ultimately earth and all species therein can ascend into the new paradigm of unity.  Therefore this is an important role that Mila and Oa play from the perspective of Wolf.

Mila and Oa also demonstrate a new paradigm of leadership as teacher; they do not consider themselves teacher as much as facilitator or a director of orchestration, along with a field of energy through which the Tao can work through to manage the map of ascension that is being carved by those in the new consensus.  One might say that the Tao is in all things, but requires a modality through which he/she may orchestrate; Mila and Oa have become prime fields for the Tao to work through to orchestrate human ascension and the coming times of cleansing ahead, particularly in the West.  There are also humans of equal evolutionary status, a few on each continent that the Tao is also orchestrating through.

Therefore teacher becomes director or conductor in the new unity based paradigm; and the conductor anticipates that all in the orchestra know already how to play one’s own instrument.  In parallel manner, Mila and Oa’s anticipate that all joining their organization already know how to ascend.  In so doing, it is the role of the conductor to bring in a script or music that allows all in the orchestra to play on time and in tune with one another.  In parallel manner, Mila and Oa orchestrate an energy flow for those in their program that allow the ascensions of each to occur in a harmonious and synchronistic manner.  To the degree that the ascensions of each are harmonious and synchronistic, to such a degree the group rises in vibration anchoring new tones within the Language of Light.

At this time, those in Mila and Oa’s organization anchor the tri-tones in the Language of Light.  One will notice that these tones have to do with multi-dimensional and multi-creational orchestration and stewardship.  Tara or the earth mother is reuniting with all dimensions and all creations that are ascending at this time in history.  In so doing, she is a part of a greater tapestry and dance that is choosing to exit the dance of destruction in full returning to the Tao through evolution.  In parallel manner to those entering Mila and Oa’s Group Mastery Program, earth had to show that she could ascend in order to enter the multidimensional dance of ascension already underway in your creation.  This earth has successfully proved as of late and upon completion of global initiation 3800 in the physical, and 4600 in the nonphysical.

What do these numbers equate to?  They equate to an overall vibration and temperature that can be measured in the physical.  Many are familiar with global warming.  Global warming is a symptom of ascension.  It is not a symptom of pollution as many a humans think, or the production of methane gas from the animal kingdoms.  Earth is heating up from the inside out; the aurora or the sun in the center of the earth who’s light can be seen and is known as the “northern lights�? is growing in size and color; and the magma and lava is increasing as more and more of earth’s core melts due to the increasing fire of the aurora.  This is occurring through the conscious intent and will to ascend upon earth’s part as a consciousness along with all sentient species therein.

The further earth moves up in vibration, the hotter Tara will become.  Already Mila and Oa who are living on the Big Island of Hawaii where there is an active volcano, notice how hot it is.  The heat rises from the land and vibrates down from the sun due to the tropical location of Hawaii so near the equator.  This heat is an energetic phenomenon, as it is indeed the earth mother’s kundahlini.  Her kundahlini is rising, just as human kundahlini rises in order to ascend.  Human ascension also causes an overall leap upwards in body temperature as the fire again begins to flow in the kundahlini channels.  Mila and Oa feel earth’s kundahlini wrapping around their fields in living upon the land of the Big Island.  And indeed it is hot and sweaty to say the very least.

In a recent swim in the ocean, Mila and Oa noticed etheric fire leaping upwards of six feet off of the surface of the water.  Indeed the elements of fire and water have healed their competitive nature, and now fire burns in the etheric inside of water, and water is also aglow inside of fire.  One day in the coming 1000-year cycle, water will become an ocean of flames in the physical as earth moves to the next dimension of awareness.  The beginning of this newfound state of being is already emerging beloved.

For those who are ascending, living upon land in which the fire burns in the etheric continuously augments ascension as one may burn off more karma in a given day than anywhere else.  This is the reason Mila and Oa live upon the Big Island, and will host their events there in the coming few years.  The Big Island allows for the maximum release of karma; and this serves given the purpose of Conclave, which is to release all human karma for disease, aging and decay in the calendar year of 2002.  Those joining them will have the added benefit of releasing one’s personal karma for disease more greatly assuring one will ascend into the regenerative biology.  (See �?/FONT>Ascending into Regenerative Biology�?for more information.)

The Return of the Winged Lion and Dragon

Blessings for Understanding the Larger Picture of the Spiritual Journey

The Lion Kingdom would like to greet our fellow ascending humans in joy and honor! Our species is not what most think it is, a member of the large "cat" family. Lions are not at all related to large cats such as Tiger, Panther or Leopard. We are a species of our own and always have been, and have been known as Winged Dragons in times past.

Mila had not associated the Lion Kingdom with her beloved Winged Dragons up until recently. She was pleased to understand that there will be again a mammal representing the dragon realms upon earth. Dragons have surrounded her for many years now, and she has commanded them into assistance of her dance of ascension along with the dance within her school. Dragons and the Lion Kingdom have watched and assisted to the best of our ability. We are pleased to say that real human ascension has been launched at long last, and humanity will now fulfill upon its role within the consensus of earth in unity and honor with all other kingdoms in the decades ahead. This is no small feat to have accomplished and we honor her along with each that has so chosen to walk the path of ascension at this time in earth history.

Indeed, the "Chinese Dragon" often resembles an elongated male lion. This is what our species once was, a dragon, and indeed at another time and upon a lighter dimension, we had a longer torso and wings! Our mane also extended down the back, resembling what is often depicted as scales in dragon form today. However we always have been covered in fur beloved. Our wings, much like the winged horse, were large, large enough to allow us to take flight and travel to those areas Terra (earth) was in need of support of our species.

Wings were common on many mammals at another time and in another dimension (12th dimension) in Terra's experience. At that time, there were 18 mammals that held wings, including lion that represented the "dragon realm". Much like the new astrology (see "A New Astrology for a New Millennia" for more information), we held an important role in relation to the energetic dance that sustained Terra's existence. Our role is of the "Peace Bearer".

Alas, our species was reduced in size over time and through the reign of the era of the dark to a mere "Dragonfly" in the physical. In the nonphysical, winged lions remain, and many have come to touch upon our nonphysical species in their inner plane journeying. Now in the recovery of our records and in the coming 18 year cycle, Lion will replace Dragonfly in the role of Peace Bearer and holding space for this particular sign in relation to the new universal astrological influences earth is embracing at this time. We like most species are recovering our records and remembering our true place in this consensus reality known as earth.

And so what do the Winged Lions or Dragons wish to say to our human ascending masters today? Be at peace. Allow. Allow the dance of all others beloved. Each dance has a specific calling, a specific lesson in the dance of life. Each lesson, if it were not learned now, will have to be learned later. However, there is no later for the lessons of the third dimension to be delayed into, as earth is completing with third dimensional awareness, and far more rapidly than most realize. She has already learned about her dance with the human species, along with each species upon earth. Terra will continue to learn and transcend and transmute that which no longer serves her choice to ascend.

Each species must learn their personal lessons in order to ascend. For the human species, such lessons appear in the singular in nature, as there is little conscious interconnection or interrelatedness that allows one to see that they are a part of the whole of humanity. Alas, this causes the lessons to seem individual, personal, and often disastrous and painful. If one could expand out enough to experience the collective of mankind in it's trials and tribulations now and into this time of cleansing, one would see an emerging light, and an emerging consensus of unity that is taking shape.

Those that cannot enter the new consensus shall perish in physicality, but the consciousness of each shall carry forward. In so doing, each that dies shall merge with their ascending future ancestors and experience the new dance of unity ahead. There is no loss beloved when one looks at the more expanded dance of humanity at large. There is also no travesty really, only the human species learning the vital lessons required to return to a level of consciousness once understood by one's ancient ancestors after a long walk into forgetfulness.

This is not to make light of the personal lessons that this difficult fall in consciousness teaches. There is illness and disease, often so painful that it is near unbearable for those humans in such a dance. There are also experiences of travesty in which through an accident or natural disaster one may become an invalid or maimed in some manner. There are also those circumstances that are excruciatingly painful to bear, and this often involves the death of a loved one. For our kingdom as with most other mammals, we too suffer disease. We too suffer maiming at times, and often at human hands. We too suffer the loss of loved ones, however our remembrance of the nonphysical assists us in seeing the larger picture. We also stand united as a collective consciousness that spans the earth and understands the lessons of our species and the dance of global ascension from this perspective.

We will assist humans who are ascending in seeing the larger picture in their journey if you so call upon us. We will expand allowing you to see the more collective dance of your species. Our gift is one of collective vision. During our dreamtime travels, we assist earth in seeing the collective vision of her own consensus reality. We also show her how earth as a consensus interrelates with others consensus realities upon a solar, universal, cosmic or creational level. In so doing, earth too sees the bigger picture and becomes trapped not in the despair that would be so otherwise, due to the pain and difficulties inherent in ascending out of such density of thought-form. So we do this for earth, so we may do this for you.

Peace comes through rising above the mundane and seeing the larger picture. In seeing the larger picture, one sees all components of truth in the expression known as earth. In seeing all truths simultaneously, one will see how each individuated truth is necessary to the whole dance. The dance is changing however, and there are some truths that are being phased out. Primarily this includes the dance of death, disease, deformity, warfare, usury, prostitution, segregation, hoarding and abuse or harmfulness. Those that cannot rectify their dance into one that is totally harmless will perish in the coming 25-year cycle. Harmfulness is any of the above patterns and all combined beloved, and it is for this reason that ascension out of such a dance is a lengthy process of inner work.

Not all will be able to ascend out of the dance. There are phases of ascension that allow for embracing harmlessness in degrees. Complete harmlessness requires full consciousness biology (36,000 strands of DNA or 12 tubes of 3,000 strands each) and a fully regenerative and balanced form. This is not only so for humanity, but for our species and each species upon earth. We too must attain full consciousness in order to become fully harmless, and this is coming in the next 35-year cycle for our species. As this is accomplished, Lion will be Dragon once again. The wings will come at another time in the physical when the density of earth has lifted and our species can then fly again. This too is coming but not until earth attains a 5th dimensional physicality.

Be at peace. Walk your truth. Each truth is unique, whether it is to ascend to full consciousness or beyond, or to ascend to a certain point then experiencing the next phase of work through one's future ancestry. Each has a story, and each story when combined with all others provides all of the lessons necessary to teach humanity at large and as a collective what it has created in it's numerous falls in consciousness so that such a dance shall never recur again. Why? Because the human species will be all the wiser and shall not choose such a fall in consciousness again.

There are no victims beloved, each species chooses their fate, and all fates dovetail with all others. All who chose to ride with earth into the unconscious of the great central sun did so for a reason and for the experience of it, for the lessons to be gained upon the other end as all came to be understood. Our lessons shared allow now creation after creation in parallel falls of consciousness to likewise recover. This too was and is necessary beloved.

Compassion teaches that those in harmfulness relate in such a manner due to a loss of remembrance. In the loss of enough records, fear becomes the norm, and out of fear, one attacks another in order to survive. This perhaps is the largest lesson that the experience of earth speaks of. As one embraces all others in love and forgiveness that have gone forgetful and into harm, one also embraces oneself. For each has partaken of the dance of harm, whether one acknowledges it or not, and all species upon earth have danced in harm due to the foundation of fear pervasive in the global thought-form of Terra.

For a long time, many species wished to believe itself beyond harm. Through ascension, each has now become aware of how human behavior has mimicked our own behavior towards one another, albeit unconscious. We too have harmed one another. We too have been used by the false intervention to strip earth and other species of their records, causing the falls in consciousness experienced upon earth over time. We too have had to forgive ourselves for our own harmful behavior. So it is so for each human, and as one forgives oneself and one's ancestor for one's own harmful dance, one can then forgive all others. It is only through forgiveness that one not only transcends, but also comes to peace with their story.

Mila and Oa have a story. Their story is filled with difficulties, triumphs, tribulations, loss of friends, loss of family out of the choice to ascend, and ultimately the seeming desire of the dark to "kill" them. Each has such a story. Each must transcend out of the very foundation of thought-form that creates such a story, whether one be human or lion. Thought-form creates all circumstances in one's life dance. When presented with any circumstance, one is always at choice. One can blame and succumb to feeling as a victim, or one may turn within and look to see "What thought-form created this experience?" Then one may intend to release the thought-form and patterning at cause and transcend.

Over time, one will transcend all harmful patterning, and in so doing, restructure the form to a regenerative nature that can ascend to the next dimension with earth. If one cannot transcend the patterns in this life, one's future ancestors will, and in so doing, one will experience not only being fully conscious, but also the process of soul infusion to the next dimension and beyond. So it is for lion, so it is for human.

We hope that what we have shared allows each reading this material to simply embrace whatever "is" in their life dance, and choose to transcend and ascend into a new dance of unity and harmlessness. As this is accomplished, peace upon earth shall come to be. The period of peace is ahead and shall follow the cleansing of all that cannot come to an internal state of peace within.

The Lion and Dragon Kingdoms

Whales

Whales are the largest sea mammals ranging in size from 20 to 100 feet in length. There are toothless varieties such as the blue, the humpback, and the gray whale, as well as toothed varieties like the sperm and killer whales. The widespread myth of a hero being swallowed by a whale, then spit out on land at a later date represents death and rebirth. It may also represent the initiation process of some ancient Mystery Religions wherein the initiate was enclosed in a dark place for three days before being brought forth into the light of the temple. One of the first recorded sea goddesses connected with the tale of the hero swallowed by a whale was the Babylonian Derceto, whose name means "The Whale of Der." She swallowed, then gave birth to the god Ea-Oannes. Another version of this story is the hero Ilmarinen of Finland which claims he was temporarily swallowed by a giant fish. The whale denotes the waters of life and the regeneration process, whether that is by rebirth back into the physical or awakening in a heavenly realm. In such vastly separated cultures as the Arabs, the Russians, and the Artic peoples there were stories of sailors landing on what they thought were islands and which turned out to be a giant whale. The Slavonic cultures have a myth of four whales supporting the Earth. The Norse believed that whales had magickal powers and were often the vehicles of witches. In Japan, the Ainu said that the chief god of the sea rode on a whale. Even parts of the Polynesian culture honored whales. Whales were known to the coastal Native Americans. Even though they were hunted by some tribes for food, they were considered powerful, magickal beings. Whales were thought to be record keepers for the Earth. Therefore they teach us about history as well. Whale signals a time of finding your origins, of seeking your overall destiny as coded in your DNA, and of finding the sounds that will release these records. Whale medicine teaches us to use the sounds and frequencies that balance our emotional bodies and heal our physical forms. We are the only creatures who do not have our own unique cry or call. Find yours and allow your voice to use this sound to release tension or emotion. In using your voice to open your memory, you are expressing your uniqueness and your personal sound. Superstitions: To see a whale is a sign of good luck, unless it is in a place where it hasn’t been seen before. Then it is a sign of misfortune. Magickal Attributes: The sea, music, long life, family, friends, and trust. Developing psychic abilities and telepathic abilities. Using sound and music to balance and heal. Learning new magic. Working with Elemental magic.

Whales form a part of a large group of warm blooded mammals adapted to life in the sea. Many myths speak of how all life upon the planet, especially human, sprang from the seas. Partially because of this, the whale is an ancient symbol for creation, both of the body and of our world.

Whales have a form of sonar or echo-location. This sensitivity to sound again links the whale to the primal creative sounds of life. Sound is the creative force of life. Directing it and responding to its feedback is part of what the whale teaches. This can be used to tap hidden levels of your own mind or even to accelerate the manifestations of goals.

Whales will occasionally breach, come completely out of the water. Whale people are very creative, but they have to come out of those creative waters. They must stay in contact with the real world. If you are becoming lost in your own creative imagination and aren’t using your creativity in your outer life, it is time to breach. If you are keeping everything locked up inside emotionally and are afraid to let it out, it is time to breach. Show the magnificence and power of your creativity. Don’t hold back.

The people of the Artic are often considered the most careful observers of Nature, this enabled them to survive the most unforgiving climates. The Inuit had a special relationship with the bowhead whale, and one of their legends tell how it was the most magnificent creation that the Great Spirit had made. It was what enabled them to survive. It was the most beautiful of all beasts but it had practical uses as well.

Creativity for the sake of creativity is not what whale teaches. It awakens great depths of creative inspiration, but so it can add color and light to your outer life to make it more wondrous.

Whales have a fishlike body; however, their tail fins, called flukes, are horizontal rather than vertical, and they have paddle-like front limbs, called flippers. Their skin is smooth and glossy and, depending on the species, may be black, white, or a variety of colors and patterns. Beneath the skin is a thick layer of fat, called blubber, which provides insulation and serves as a source of stored energy.

Whales are found in all the world's oceans and even in a few rivers. One species of dolphin, the pink river dolphin, lives only in the Amazon River and its larger tributaries. Some whales, including the blue, fin, humpback, and gray, undertake some of the longest migrations in the animal kingdom, traveling between the tropics in winter and sub-polar waters in summer. Other whales do not migrate long distances or, like the killer whales, wander without specific migratory routes.

Most whales remain near the surface of the ocean, but some dive to great depths and remain underwater for long periods ranging from 50 to 80 minutes. Whales possess interesting adaptations for diving, some of which are shared with other aquatic mammals such as seals. Whale lungs and adjoining air passages have a rigid construction, which prevents their collapse under pressure in extremely deep water. The blood and muscles contain high concentrations of the oxygen-storing pigments hemoglobin and myoglobin. During prolonged dives these pigments supply 80 to 90 percent of the whale's oxygen.

Also during a dive, the whale’s heart rate slows to as low as three to five beats per minute. Arteries constrict, greatly reducing blood flow to many of the animal's organs. This conserves oxygen and maintains blood pressure in the life-supporting structures, such as the brain and heart.

Some whales, such as killer whales, regularly jump clear of the water and land on their back or side in a behavior known as breaching. Scientists are unsure why whales breach. Some theorize that this behavior may be a display of dominance used in courtship or may enable the whales to view their surrounding area. The loud sound that breaching makes as the whale lands in the water suggests to some scientists that it is used as a form of long-distance communication

Depending on the species, sex, age, and season, whales may travel alone, in pairs, or in small or large groups. A group of about 20 or fewer whales is called a pod; larger gatherings are called schools. Some groups consist only of males and some of both males and females. In some species, such as the pilot whale, the groups appear to have definite leaders. Killer whales live in family groups called matrilines. Each matriline is composed of an adult female and her offspring. Male parents of offspring do not live with the matrilineal group. Some male and female offspring stay with their matrilineal group for life, while other matrilineal groups are less stable, with members that come and go. Two or more matrilines may travel together in a pod.

Killer Whales

Perhaps the most intriguing indication of whale intelligence came with the discovery in the 1970s of whale singing, most notably in humpbacks. Humpback songs, which may last more than 20 minutes, consist of a series of phrases or sequences. All of the singing whales of a particular migrating group sing very nearly the same song. The songs change progressively from year to year, resulting in entirely new songs after four or five years. Bowhead whales also sing. The Inuit people of Alaska have told researchers that they long observed that bowheads make sounds "like a guitar playing inside the water." Singing most commonly occurs in the winter mating grounds, suggesting that it may be part of a mating ritual. Scientists have been unable to prove that whale songs encode language in an intellectual sense. The whale songs may simply be longer versions of the mating songs also noted in birds and amphibians.
