Soyal (Southwestern United States)
Sakwa Mana

Themes:  Prayer; Communication; Cycles; Harvest; Health; Joy; Providence

Symbols:  The color Blue; Corn; Prayer Sticks; Pine

Abuot Sakwa Mana:  The Hopi Blue Corn Maiden, this goddess participates in the Soyal festival by carrying a tray of blue corn and spruce bows, both of which represent the goddess's ongoing providence, no matter the season.

To Do Today:  The Hopi gather in kivas today to comfort and bring happiness to the old year so that the new one will be filled with earth's and Sakwa Mana's bounty.  Several customary activities today are fun to try.  FIrst, offer the gift of a feather to a friend.  This ensures them a new year filled with health and joy.  To invoke Sakwa Mana's blessing on the gift, pack it with a few pine needles.  Over time, the feather will absorb the goddess's aroma and disperse her power each time it's fanned in ritual.
Making a sun shield brings victory in your life over any darkness holding your back.  To create a simple one, cut out around piece of paper and decorate it with your creative vision of the sun.  Either keep this with you or put it in a predominant spot in our home.  When success comes, burn the paper with a thankful heart.
Finally, find a fallen pine twig outside and attch a small feather to it.  This represents both the goddess and your wish for a gentle voice in prayer.

Reunion with the Goddess
(Southeastern United States)
Cherokee First Woman

Themes:  Spirituality; Universal Truth; Unity; Cleansing; Abundance

Symbols:  All animals and Plants

About Cherokee First Woman:  This goddess appears in Cherokee myths as an ancestress of the tribe and creatrix of all animals and plants.  After the world was first inhabited, Cherokee First Woman continued to give birth to one child a year (this child may have symbolized the new year).  Additionally, she motivates the earth's bounty and generates abundance to sustain us through the months ahead.

To Do Today:  Around this time of year, Cherokee tribes often hold a festival of offerings meant to celebrate their unity with the Sacred Parent and reunite them with this power.  One custom easy to follow is that of exchanging clothes with a loved one; this symbolizes oneness among humans, the gods, and each other.
Washing in running water today (shower or tap) will cleanse away any barrier that stand between you and the goddess.  If you hold a formal ritual today, place a bowl of water near the circle where each participant can rinse their hand to invoke Cherokee First Woman's blessings and purification.
Finally, drink a tall glass of springwater today to release this goddess's spiritual nature, rejuvenation, and abundance into every cell.

Message of KANKA
I am so old. I know everything. . I am the old grandmother in her rocking
Chair. Some call me a witch, or an old crone. But see me as I rock to and
Fro, babbling on about all I know and have heard and seen. For this is so,
For I have been around since time began. Beware or rejoice for the powers I
Have are endless. I could wave my finger at you and change you into a toad,
But I choose not to. You see me in your dreams as the wise old woman who
Guides you. I am the young, powerful sorceress that sets your mind spinning.
But remember I am so old. I tell you I know everything, but are you so

And the negative transmuting into each other. I brought the sacred teaching

Themselves and restore life. Some call me "the Holy Vein of the Nation" for
I protect the teachings through generation upon generation. Do not forget
The way of the teachings is "the Red Road" the road you are on in this

Crane Watch (Nebraska)
Tamra

Themes:  Air; Earth; Nature; Health; Longevity; Devotion; Wishes; Relationships

Symbols:  Feathers; Birdseed

About Tamra:  In Hindu tradition, this goddess was the ancestor of all birds.  As such, she can teach us their special language, which often bears communications from the divine.  As the consort of the turtle god, Kashyapa, she also represents a potent union between earth and air elements.

To Do Today:  People in Nebraska spend six weeks watching the cranes who rest and feed here during the  migratory season.  This region of the United States boasts the largest group of sandhill cranes, about fifity thousand birds. Magickally speaking, these creatures represent health, longevity, and devotion.  Visualize a crane residing in your heart chakra anytime you feel your eyes straying from the one you love, or whenever you need improved well-being.
Birds offer numerous magickal  applications.  For warmth in a relationship, scatter feathers to the winds with your wish.  The birds will use the feathers in their nests, symbolically keeping your nest intact and affectionate.  Or, disperse birdseed while thinking of a question.  As the birds fly away, watch their movement.  Flight to the right indicates a positive response; to the left is negative. If the birds scatter, things are iffy.  If they fly straight up overhead , a heartfelt wish is being taken to Tamra.

May your wishes and dreams come to be.

ButterFly Maiden
Vernal  Equinox

Themes:  Rebirth; Beauty; Fertility; Balance; Freedom; Nature

Symbols:  Butterflies; Seedlings; Rainwater: Spring Flowers

About Butterfly Maiden:  In Hopi tradition, the Butterfly Maiden is a kachina (spirit) who rules the springtime and the earth's fertility.  Butterfly Maiden flutters into your life today to reconnect us with  nature and to help us rediscover that graceful butterfly within each of us - the one that effortless rises about problems, making the world its flower.

To Do Today:  In magickal traditions, the equinox celebrates the sun's journey back to predominance in the sky and the return of fertility to the earth.  It is a joyous fire festival when the elements are in balance, giving us the opportunity to like wise balance our lives. If anything has held you back from real spiritual growth, now is the time to banish it and move on.  Visualize yourself as the caterpillar who becomes the butterfly, then let the Butterfly  Maiden give you wings with which to overcome anything!
To inspire Butterfly Maiden's beauty within and without, wash your face and chakras (near pulse points as well as at the top of the head, in the middle of the forehead, over the heart, near the groin, behind the knees, and at the bottom of the feet) with rainwater first thing in the morning (dawn is best).  Go outside afterward and toss some flower petals into a spring breeze, saying:

Butterfly Maiden, liberate me;
let my mind and spirit ever be free!
The winds will carry your wish to heaven.

Eagle Dance (New Mexico)
White Shell Woman

Themes:  Magic; Overcoming; Spirituality; Freedom; Hope;
Success; Protection; Joy; Dreams

Symbols:  Eagle; Rattle; White

About White Shell Woman:  In Native American traditions,
White Shell Woman came to earth bearing elemental blankets
and the sunshine of protection, dreams, and renewed hope.
When she arrived a rainbow appeared, banishing sadness with
the promise of eventually reuniting humankind with the gods.
Today she renews this promise to us, whispering her message
on March's winds and bearing it on the wings of an eagle.

To Do Today:  Sometime in spring, the Pueblos of New Mexico hold
an Eagle Dance to bring rain and ensure the tribe's success in difficult
situations.  The mimelike movements of the dance unite the dancers
with the Eagle spirit, connecting them with the sacred powers.  To
adapt this in your own life, grab a feather duster and you clean up the
house!
If you have young children in your life, work with them on a Shell Woman anti-nightmare blanket or happiness charm.  Take four strips
of cloth in elemental colors, or seven in the colors of the rainbow.  Sew them together to form a blanket or portable swatch.  Bless the charm saying:

Love and joy within each seam brings me only happy dreams;
Shell Woman, shine through the night; keep me safe till dawn's
first light.
