HOW DO I KNOW IF I HAVE AN INDIGO CHILD?

by Daniela Ortner

You know that your child is different ?from day one! But all Moms think their children are special, so most just live with their Indigo children without knowing much about it. The “Aha?experience is incredible, and the sooner you stumble upon it, the better for your child and you. Indigo children, who are either “Indigo?or “Crystal?(I will talk about that difference later), are both from a “New Generation?or “New Age?of children. These children are special in that they are the new leaders of the future. These children are born after 1980. Indigos exist everywhere in the world (documented in the US, Europe, China and other countries) - it is an inter-cultural phenomena.

The term "Indigo Child" originated from Nancy Ann Tappe, who classified people's personalities according to the hue of their auras. According to Tappe, Indigos are extremely bright, precocious children with an amazing memory and a strong desire to live instinctively. These children of the next millennium are sensitive, gifted souls with an evolved consciousness who have come here to help change the vibrations of our lives and create one land, one globe and one species. They are our bridge to the future (
Understanding Your Life Through Color, 1982).

Indigo children often will start out as “Cry?or “Colic Babies?/STRONG> ?driving everybody around them insane. The difference between a real colic baby and an Indigo is, that with an Indigo you can try all the tricks in the world (medications, specialists, swinging, music, white noise, and so on) ?they will only stop crying when they want and for no other reason.

From my counselling experience with Indigo children, I have found that almost 90% are raised by single mothers. Sometimes a separation took place in the first few years and sometimes the moms were single already in the pregnancy. The explanation seems to be in the fact that Indigos are very demanding, tap into our energy all the time, and need a lot of attention. Sometimes fathers feel like they cannot keep up with them (almost a sort of competition for attention), they become frustrated with the Indigo’s behaviour, or they are in total disagreement with the mothers on how to raise an Indigo. Men often cannot understand the spiritual aspect of this issue and want to break the “spirit?of the child, so they will behave according to “norms? However, I have seen wonderful fathers live with Indigos as well ?they are open-minded and accepted the fact that their child is “different?and that their role as a father will not be the traditional one. When this happens, the harmony is radiant and apparent.

There are several lists, books, and tests out there ?but no definite diagnostic tool. Indigo children are different in many ways, but if you read this list of signs and about 80% or more of this matches your child, then you have the answer. The difference between an Indigo and Crystal child is more or less that an Indigo has more of a “warrior?soul, whereas Crystal children are more dreamy. You can have the Aura of your child photographed (white t-shirt in front of a white wall is best) and analysed to see which type your child is.

List of Indigo & Crystal Characteristics

There are many books, movies, articles, and website about Indigos available. The awareness is growing, and so are unfortunately, people who take advantage of parents in need. Please be cautious when it comes to making changes to your child’s life (especially when it comes to diets, medications, supplements, schooling, and so on). Educate yourself, read different opinions (also the critics), find a pediatrician who is willing to learn with you, and most of all listen to your child and your intuition as a mother. There are things you can do to help your child develop better, but there is no one way or one method that fits all.

In conclusion, I want to emphasize that ALL children are special ?however Indigos are certainly different ?challenging, enlightening, unusual, and most of all surprising. As mothers we recognize that early on. The sooner we learn to accept them and give them what they need, the easier and more joyful our days will be watching them change the world.

My son said to me when he was 3 years old: “Mommy, I love you more than God.?That said it all. I will never forget the seriousness, meaningfulness, and love in his eyes when he said those words.

All children are a gift and should be loved and cherished!
