Are You an Adult Indigo? Wendy Chapman Yes, You can be an adult Indigo. They did not JUST start coming in now, the numbers have just been increasing more and more til there are so many we finally can not ignore them. Yeay!!! Are you an adult Indigo? Please note, I (Wendy Chapman) am the first person to publish anything about indigo adults. Everything else I had heard or read prior to 2001 said that indigo children started in the late 70s and early 80s. I received thousands of emails in 1999 and 2000 from people who claimed to be adult indigo children. These people were over 25, and mostly over 30 years old, and had very similar characteristics to indigo children, plus or minus a few. The differences to indigo children were reliably coming up in nearly every letter. I collated this data and came up with a list of indigo adult characteristics, published here in Feb. 2001. The list has born the test of time, with tens of thousands more people recognizing themselves and writing to me. I am very glad to have made this contribution to the world! Many indigos seem to find solace in finally knowing why they are different from the general population and in knowing they are not completely alone. I began the indigo adults mailing list on yahoogroups in April 2001, which now in 2005 has over 2100 members and the indigo-adults-moderated (on topic) list, which has over 700 members. Follow the links at the bottom of the page to join either of these. These lists are virtual communities for indigo adults. I am writing a book about indigo adults to help spread the word to reach more indigos. ~Wendy Chapman

Are intelligent, though may not have had top grades. Definitely. I had the guys with suits and briefcases pull me out of my 6th grade class to test my IQ. They wanted to put me in gifted classes, but my parents told them I had a bad attitude, so they didn't. I didn't have top grades in high school, but if I had put in any amount of effort at all, I probably would have 4.0 everything. Are very creative and enjoy making things. I am creative musically and with writing poetry, songs, etc. Also have a very vivid imagination. Always need to know WHY, especially why they are being asked to do something. This is one of the reasons I think I spent most of my childhood/teenage years grounded. lolol I still irritate people frequently with it. I am always hearing things like, "Do you have to ask so many questions?" Had disgust and perhaps loathing for much of the required and repetitious work in school. I hated being in class. It bored me greatly. I spent most of it in my own little world. Even in college I made arrangements to not come to lecture but still take the tests and hand in the work. Were rebellious in school in that they refused to do homework and rejected authority of teachers, OR seriously wanted to rebel, but didn't DARE, usually due to parental pressure. I did my homework, but usually with little effort. And only because I was afraid of my father's reaction if I didn't. If any teachers invaded my personal space somehow, I generally rebelled. My first year of college, the girls on my floor in the dorm labeled me the floor rebel. lolol May have experienced early existential depression and feelings of helplessness. These may have ranged from sadness to utter despair. Suicidal feelings while still in high school or younger are not uncommon in the Indigo Adult. This would describe most of my life. And is greatly reflected in my poetry. Have difficulty in service-oriented jobs. Indigos resist authority and caste system of employment. You mean I have to do what!?!?! Let them do it themselves. hahaha Doesn't go over well with employer's. This explains me up until I found a job after college. Though I still get my feather's ruffled if someone tries to pull seniority on me. Prefer leadership positions or working alone to team positions. Yup. While I am a Senior project manager, I prefer to sit in my office and be bothered as little as possible. Have deep empathy for others, yet an intolerance of stupidity. Definitely. I wear my heart on my sleeve. Stupidity is definitely intolerable, especially if the person is trying to act as if they know it all. grrrrr May be extremely emotionally sensitive including crying at the drop of a hat (no shielding) Or may be the opposite and show no expression of emotion (full shielding). I actually do both of these. One day crying about everything, the next I am like a stone statue. May have trouble with RAGE. This is the 1/2 point. I tend to be slow to anger, but when I do it isn't a pretty sight. I am working on it though. Have trouble with systems they consider broken or ineffective, ie. political, educational, medical, and legal. Every single one of those examples drives me crazy. I don't get involved with politics. The legal system is corrupted. I cannot understand why other countries can educate their children so well, but we here in the U.S. seem to have a very hard time with that. And after this last year and the illnesses/problems I am going through, I don't have any faith in doctors. Alienation from or anger with politics - feeling your voice won't count and/or that the outcome really doesn't mattter. Goes back to the last bullet point. Politics isn't worth my time in thought it irritates me. Frustration with or rejection of the traditional American dream - 9-5 career, marriage, 2.5 children, house with white picket fence, etc. I refuse to fall into what tradition says is "normal" or "traditional". Don't work 9-5, have 4 kids, marriage is over-rated, and definitely don't want that white picket fence, give me a house in the woods. Anger at rights being taken away, fear and/or fury at "Big Brother watching you." Taking away my rights is grounds for serious rebellion and bared teeth. Have a burning desire to do something to change and improve the world. May be stymied what to do. May have trouble identifying their path. Yes, I want to help improve the world, hopefully by helping those who ask better understand what being a witch is and assisting those in need of guidance as it relates to their path. It took me 36 years to identify my path. Before that I was lost. Have psychic or spiritual interest appear fairly young - in or before teen years. I was always trying to learn more about the psychic realm, especially in my teens. Still am. Had few if any Indigo role models. Having had some doesn't mean you're not an indigo, though. Nope, none were present in my life. Have strong intuition. Yes, I do. Especially lately now that I am tearing down the wall that kept it all inside. Random behavior pattern or mind style - (symptoms of Attention Deficit Disorder). May have trouble focusing on assigned tasks, may jump around in conversations. This be me all my life. Have had psychic experiences, such as premonitions, seeing angels or ghosts, out of body experiences, hearing voices. Ghosts would seek me out, trying to give me messages, I think. This is one of the big reasons I was shunned growing up. I think they are coming back to me again now that the wall is coming down. Oh, and yea I hear voices. Possibly spirit guides, ghosts, sometimes other peoples thoughts just before they speak them. May be electrically sensitive such as watches not working and street lights going out as you move under them, electrical equipment malfunctioning and lights blowing out. Some of this happens to me. But my biggest problem is the static electricity I have. Anything I touch that is metal gives me a big shock (happens all year long) and woe be to anyone who happens to touch me at the same time. Does this count? May have awareness of other dimensions and parallel realities. Not sure. Maybe before my wall went up. I phase out alot, "lights on, no one home" kind of situation. Maybe I went to some other reality...hmmmm Sexually are very expressive and inventive OR may reject sexuality in boredom or with intention of achieving higher spiritual connection. May explore alternative types of sexuality. Not including the rejecting sexuality part, this is most definitely me. Seek meaning to their life and understanding about the world May seek this through religion or spirituality, spiritual groups and books, self-help groups and books. Yup. Through spirtuality, groups and books. When they find balance they may become very strong, healthy, happy individuals.
