The Bell
The bell has been sacred throughout the centuries and has had a thousand purposes. It was used as a warning, to cure sickness and disease and most popularly by the Celts in Cymru (Wales), the people of my own heritage, to drive away bad and mischeivious spirits.
The bell is now used to disperse negative energies from and to cleanse the sacred space. It indicates to the astral self that the ritual is about to begin and so also initiates a change in mental state. Ringing the bell resonates into the astral plane and so is often also used to call the Guardians of the Watchtowers to the quarters.
The bell represents the element of air, and is considered sacred to the Goddess.
Bell Blessing
You are welcome to use my blessing, and adapt it to your own style.
Cast circle about yourself and call the four watchtowers. Sit in front of your altar with the bell at the center of your working space. Calm and center yourself, reach out your mind to the Lord and Lady. When you are ready, focus on your bell and say:
"Element of Earth, cleanse and purify this tool of my Craft that it may be able to perform that same action upon the sacred circle."
Sprinkle salt on the bell.
"Element of Air, cleanse and purify this tool of Calling, that it may be heard across the dimensions."
Cense the bell.
"Element of Fire, cleanse and purify this tool of the Circle, that it may bring bright energies to my space as you bring warmth and light."
Pass the bell through a candle flame.
"Element of Water, cleanse and purify this tool of Conciousness, that it may aid me in my shift to the ritual mind."
Sprinkle water on the bell.
Now, to the Goddess and God, say:
"I consecrate this bell in the names of the Goddess and the God, that it may seal and purify the circle for Them to meet with me in that place between the worlds.
In love and in trust,
In peace and in wisdom,
I bless this tool of my faith,
So mote it be."
