Oatmeal Complexion Soap

Oatmeal was the first filled soap that I made. It has a textural beauty that is hard to match. I find this soap a pleasure to make because it thickens so perfectly and cures much faster than other soaps. I love the simple, natural scent of the oat grains. Traditionally, oatmeal soap has been used for bathing children who have chicken pox or measles

Oil Blends

24 ounces olive oil24 ounces coconut oil
38 ounces vegetable shortening (Crisco)

Alkaline Solution

12 ounces sodium hydroxide (lye)

32 ounces rain-, spring, distilled, or tap water

Essential or Fragrance OilNone

Filler8 ounces powdered oatmeal (blenderized oats)

Grapefruit-and-Fennel Facial Steam

2 tablespoons freshly squeezed grapefruit juice
1/2 teaspoon grated grapefruit rind
1 cup coarsely chopped, fresh fennel stalks and leaves

Mix ingredients together in a large bowl and add 4 cups boiling water. Drape a towel over your head and inhale deeply for 10 minutes.

Feathery fennel fronds make this botanical brew beautiful as well as healing. Grapefruit gives the steam an antiseptic and astringent quality; fennel deeply cleanses, removes skin impurities and reduces inflammation when applied as a compress.

Facial Masks

Clay based masks are tightening and cleansing because of the clay's ability to absorb oil and toxins. Clay tones and refreshes the skin while stimulating the surface circulation.
They are slightly drying so if you have dry or mature skin you may not want to use.

Use 5 drops of essential oils per 1/3 oz. Clay such as green or pink clay.

Problem Skin

 2 drops Tea Tree
 2 drops Eucalyptus
 1 drop Lavender

Normal Skin

 2 drops Lavender
 2 drops Eucalyptus
 1 drop Rosewood

Solid Bath Oil Bars

Ingredients:
2 ounces deodorized cocoa butter or mango butter
2 ounces beeswax, refined beads
2 or 3 ounces liquid vegetable oil such as jojoba, sunflower, or sweet almond
2 teaspoons of essential oil or fragrance oil of your choice
1/2 to 1 teaspoon of Jojoba Wax Spheres in color of your choice

Melt first oil (hard oil) and pour two ounces into 8 oz Pyrex measuring cup.

Add two ounces of beeswax beads (total of four ounces in cup). Add jojoba
wax spheres. Melt together in microwave.

Now add the liquid vegetable oil. Use 2 ounces for a hard bar, which would
bring your total to 6 ounces or 3 ounces for a softer bar for a total of 7
ounces. Stir to mix thoroughly.

Add essential oil or fragrance oil when mixture has cooled slightly. Pour
into small soap molds. Pop out when cool, about two hours. For best results,
put in refrigerator for a few minutes before popping out of mold.

Uses:
- Wet hands and rub with lotion bar
- Rub on body when getting out of shower while still damp
- Use as drawer sachet
- Cut off a sliver and let melt in hot bath water
- Massage into cuticles to soften them
- Rub into elbows and knees Massage - use softer bar recipe.

Another hard oil you can use is Shea Butter
- use 2 ounces of liquid oil with this in addition to the beeswax. It makes
a very nice bar, especially when using essential oils and jojoba.

You can also use our regular, chocolate smelling cocoa butter. Use scents
such as peppermint or spearmint oil which will compliment the chocolate
smell of the cocoa butter.

Use sunflower oil when you want a lotion bar that absorbs readily into your
skin. Sweet Almond oil is great for cuticles and for a heavier, more
moisturizing bar.

Cornmeal Chamomile  Scrub

Cornmeal Acts as a natural exfoliate, while chamomile tea soothes tired skin. Use fine cornmeal and chamomile tea that has been brewed and cooled.

Mix together equal parts fine cornmeal and cooled chamomile tea to form a gentle scrub. Massage onto face, let dry, then gently rub off and rinse face. This scrub is not recommended for sensitive skin.
