Naturally, such a thing would begin to cause instant panic... If there was no electricity, no one could communicate. Batteries may work, sure, but computers? Television? Alarms? Security systems? People would need things to survive... and there are always the ones who take advantage.
What would I do? First thing's first... Take stock of what you have. Food, Batteries, Gas in the car. How much do you have to last? You'll need more sooner or later; better sooner, because by the time you finally decide to go, it could all be gone. In a situation such as this, I'd take accountability of the most important survival tool...
Weapons.
With them, you could hunt for food, defend yourself, or take what you need.
Trust No One. Friends and family first...
I'd call my friends and family; Close ones, that I know will make it a priority to meet with me. We'd discuss the situation, take stock of what each can offer: Special skills (Hunting experience, self-defense/Military/Law Enforcement training, carpentry/Agriculture, etc.) I'd prepare a plan, and bring everyone together to work as a team. I would suggest working as a Collective... Everyone sharing everything. Probably even set up a single place where everyone stays. That way, we won't be out of contact.
I would ready myself, my arms, and my equipment... Things would have the potential to get dangerous quickly. Riots, Thieves, and looting. You have to protect yourself, and others.
