The Age of Aquarius Everyone seems to have heard about the Age of Aquarius. Depending on which astrologer you consult, we have either begun or will soon begin the Aquarian Age. But What exactly IS the Age of Aquarius? To Answer that question, we must back track a little. As you know, looking at the Sun from our vantage point here on EARTH, it travels around the EARTH once every year. On its Journey, the Sun travels a narrow path (called the ecliptic), and passes through the twelve signs of the Zodiac. When the foundation stones of the science of astrology were first formally put in place in Babylonian times, the signs of the Zodiac were named after actual constellations of stars in the sky. Those early astronomers had noticed that the Sun Journeyed throught the same constellations at the same time of each year. The beginning of the astrological year is a point called the vernal equinox. When astrology was first formalized, the vernal equinox signaled the beginning of the Sun's entrance not only into the sign of Aries but also in the Constellation of Aries. When the Babylonians calculated the zodiac, the vernal equinox took place in the constellation of Aries. Around the time of the Birth of Christ (the beginnng of A.D.), the earth had shifted enought so that the vernal equinox took place in the Consteallation of Pisces. Around the Year A.D. 2,000, the vernal equinox will begin to take place in the constellation of Aquarius. Hence, "this is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius." Little by little, at the infinitesimal rate of approximately 1 degree every 71 1/2 years, the equinoxes move through the zodiac. In the space of about 2,150 years, the equinoxes move through one sign of the zodiac. In the time span of approzimately 25,820 years, the equinoxes move through the entire twelve signs of the zodiac. This 26,000 - year time span is called a Great Year. Each 2,100 year transit through a sign is called a Great Month; and a Great Month is also referred to as an AGE. For the past 2,000 years or so, mankind has been living in the Age of Pisces; we are now entering the Age of Aquarius. Because such vast amounts of time are involved, it is difficult to give an exact year to the beginning of a NEW AGE. The consensus, however, is that by the year 2000 we will definitley be in the AGE of AQUARIUS. Each Age is characterized by the astrological sign of that era. During its existence, our earth has gone through thousands of Great Years. Scientists estimate our Earth to be as old as 4.6 billion years, which means that it has passed through almost 177,00 Great Years. But man's ancestors,creatures who first walked upright on two legs, have been on earth for only 115 Great Years (three million year). And Neanderthal Man walked this earth only nine Great Years ago. Astrologers trace mankind's written history only as far back as the Age of Leo. AGE OF LEO (circa 10,000 b.c. to 8000 b.c.) This Age is characterized by the energy and creativity of human beings learning how to use their environment. Men and women (the Neanderthal) lived in caves and learned to refine highly finished and polished stone implements. The Sun, ruler of Leo, was of paramount importance to Neolithic (New Stone Age) man, for during this era human being acquired a limited ability to raise food (agriculture) rather than merely hunt and gather it. According to astrologers, cave paintings from this age (man's first written history) show a marked Leo influence. This is also the same time that the Ancient Egyptians built the Sphinx and worshipped the Lion, the symbol for Leo. AGE OF CANCER (circa 8000 b.c. to 6000 b.c.) It was during this Age that human beings abandoned their caves and formed fixed dwellings above ground (the Cancerian influence to make a home). Mankind learned to spin and weave and make pottery. They began to grow varied crops and to domesticate animals. Moon worship and fertility rites abounded during this era. (cancer is ruled by the Moon and is the sign of domesticity, fertility, and motherhood.) Primitive water rafts, sailing, and net fishing began during this age. AGE OF GEMINI (circa 6000 b.c. to 4000 b.c.) This Age is marked by the development of writing (Gemini is the sign of communication). Mankind expaned its intellectual capacities by beginning to record and to store information. The invention of the wheel made rudimentary commerce and travel possible (both ruled by Gemini). And as in the duality of Gemini Cro-magnon man showed up on the scene. They co-existed during this time. By the End of this Age Neanderthal man was nearly extinct. Born during this Age was also Ancient Egyptian Hiroglyphics. According to the Bible Scholars this is the age that Human Kind, the Sons of GOD, actually showed up on this planet. They came to name the plants and animals and to colonize EARTH. AGE OR TAURUS (circa 4000 b.c. to 2000 b.c.) The great Egyptian civilization, with its emphasis on cultivation of land and new technology of building ( the pyramids), echoes the influence of Earthy Taurus. Both the esthetic nature of Taurus and its solidity are reflected in the beautiful art and architecture of this Age. Here in this Age the Eqyptians invent the Worship of the Golden Calf which is a credit to Taurus. This is when Abraham started to Worship GOD by making animal sacrifices rather than Human ones. This era is also marked by the Exodus of the Hebrews from Ancient Egypt to a land of their own taking with them the knowledge of building large structures and specialized crafting. AGE OF ARIES (circa 2000 b.c. to 1 b.c.) This era is known as the Iron Age, when man-kind learned to fashion weapons from iron ( Aries rules the metal iron). The Age is also characterized by its military and aggressive spirit. During this ear Assyria and the Greek city-States rose to power, and Alexander the Great Conquered the World. In the later part of the AGE, militaristic ROME became the most powerful empire ever known on Earth. In Biblical terms this was known as the Age of the Wars of the Kings. As Aries is ruled by MARS and Mars is the ruler of WAR. This is also the rise of Greek and Nordic Mythology and the Worship of All-powerful Gods. AGE OF PISCES (circa a.d. 1 to a.d. 2000 ) The enormous influence of Christianity changed the world during this era (Pisces is the sign of Spiritual knowledge). The fish (symbol of Pisces) is also the symbol of Chiristianity. Drawings of fish were used as secret signs between early Christians. Christ called His apostles"fishers of men". This Age is marked by sacrifice and struggle (qualities associated with Pisces.) What will the AGE OF AQUARIUS be like ? For clues we must look at the sign of Aquarius. Aquarius is the sign of Brotherhood and humanitarianism. In the coming Era astrologers expect that the concept of individual nations will fade (remeber the Lennon song "IMAGINE" ? ) and that humankind will join together as one people rather than be separted into nationalities. Thus, is the AGE of AQUARIUS we may reach at last the long-held ideal of world peace. Predictions are that there will be a great emphasis on the common man, and that special privilege for people of high birth or wealth will become an antique notion. The aristocrat of the future will be the person of learning and achievement. Aquarius is the sign of scientific knowledge and invention, and rules the air waves. It is impossible to imagine what mind-boggling inventions will take place in the next 2,000- years, but astrologers predict incredible journeys through space will definitely be one of them. Not just travel in our own solar system, or even our own galaxy, but to the universe beyound. There will be space arks that can tranport multitiudes of people, space colonies, and interstellar travel. The achievement of trouble to the stars will indeed be remarkable when one considers that Pluto, our outermost planet, is only five light-minutes distant from us, while the nearest star (not counting our own sun) is 4.3 light years away! Aquarius is a mental sign, and future should be marked by as yet unthinkable intellectual achievement. There will be concern for the environment, and the discovery of new technology to solve the problemsof dwindling supplies of energy and resources on earth. The power of atomic energy, electronics, aviation (all Aquarian inventions) will be harnessed for the greatest possible use. Aquarius is a practical sign; the purpose of knowledge is to make use of it, not simply for the sake of knowing. Astrologers have a special place in their hearts for Aquarius because it is the sign associated with astrology. They have already seen an upsurge of interest in astrolgoy at the dawning of the Aquarian Age. As someone once remarked, "Astrology is the religion of the new generation." In the coming Age Astrology will no longer be thought of as a superstitious, arcane or secret knowledge possessed by a few. It will be a respected scientific inquiry, available to everyone. Perhaps it is wishful thinking to say that in the Age of Aquarius mankind will achieve universal harmony, but after all Aquarius is the sign of hopes and wishes. Astrologers hope that in the Aquarian Age they will build on past knowledge to discover new truths (Aquarius is the truth-seeker). Granted, the predictions are based on the positive qualities of Aquarius. Such negative qualities as inflexibility and vacillation and the pursuit of selfish desires will also be part of the new Age. Mankind has not evolved so high that we can expect a new race of totally unselfish and idealistic people. We also must surmount grave problems. There is a terrible danger of so over populating our world that only global war, disease and famine will reduce our numbers. We are using up our natural resources at an alarming rate, stripping our planet bare of its ability to sustain life. Most terrifying of all, we have the atomic power to completely destroy ourselves, and quite likely,the earth along with us. Still, the Age of Aquarius offers hope. Uranus, ruler of Aquarius, is called the planet of the future, for within its dominion lie modern science, invention, electricity and humanitarian movements. Uranus is the planet of the power of will and of unconscious purpose. A promise is held out to us; we can build a wonderful new world. Or we can lose all that we have. The Age Of Aquarius The Age of Aquarius (c.2000 �?) starts at the dawn of Satya Yuga. The beginning of this age was estimated by various calculations around the year 2000. Some astrologers believe that mankind will step out of the mystical age of Pisces right into the luminous age of Aquarius between 2000 and 2050, which means the end of superstitions and of dogmatic religions (apud Bruno Wurtz.) It is not without intrest to go back to the Ahmadiya Movement of Islam speaking about Mahdi's appearence on the Earth. We shall quote here Gibb and Kramer (Shorter Encyclopaedia of Islam, p.24): "To believe in His as the Second or the Promised Messiah is an article of faith, because first of all His coming early in the 14th century of the Hidjra was predicted by Muhammad." Or, Hidjra (Hegira), the starting point of the Muhammadan period was the 20th of September, 622 and that gives us the date close to the end of the year 1922 maybe the beginning of the year 1923 for the start of the new era. Now, there is a brief extract giving the evolution of the heavy planets towards this end of the millennium. Pluto, the mightiest of the planets, is the master of Scorpio until the beginning of the year 1995 and afterwards it will enter Sagittarius. It awakens the old demons to exorcize them completely and this cleansing will bring all the mud from the depths to the surface. The energy will serve to purify man, if it is well used; being perverted it will turn against him. Pluto in Scorpio indicates a token of life, death, rebirth. Then, it will enter Sagittarius, symbol of superior spirit, of metaphysical abstraction, of fundamental seeking. The other three heavy planets will leave one after another Capricornus to enter Aquarius: Saturn in 1991, Uranus in 1996 and Neptune in 1999 indicating the entering of mankind into the age of Aquarius, generating a new awareness, a new spiritual order (apud Christian Kursner.)
In 1996 Uranus will enter Aquarius whose master it is. Thus, the dominion of materialism and selfishness will come to an end, leading at the same time towards a new society characterized by benevolence and universal integration. This will means the abolishing of the old concepts and the vanishing of any physical and spiritual frontiers. But beware! The entering of Jupiter alongside Uranus into the sign of Aquarius (1996-1997), may mean the outburst of the divine wrath against those that overlook its authority as well as those that disturb the divine order of the world. The astrologer Alain considered that the age of Aquarius started in 1962. In Benjamin Creme's opinion, the beginning of this age would be in the spring of 1982, and according to others in 1987. Creme even asserted that Christ's new Avatar manifested Himself among us since 1977. The famous psychologist Carl Gustav Jung (1875-1961) considered that this age would start in 1997 (Bruno Wurtz, New Age, Ed. de Vest, Timisoara 1992.) Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi announced that Satya Yuga has started in 1993 on the vernal equinox . . . If Pisces is a sign of water, Aquarius is much more so. Considering the last ages of the cycle, the transition from the zodiacal names of mammals to those of the aquatic beings can be interpreted as the tendency of returning to the Primordial Ocean along the regressive branch of the ellipse, meaning the absorption (dissolution) back into the Original Atom from where the cycle had started. We remember that Jesus is the Beginning and the End, the Alpha and the Omega. He is to descend for the second time as Kalki, the 10th and last Avatar of the Evolution Principle, thereby being the aeon under which the Age of Aquarius is placed. J. Carmignac gave an interpretation of the manuscripts found beside the Dead Sea, in which he identified "the Teacher of Righteousness" (Faith) with "the One who pours the rain of Righteousness" (Faith.) Many authors are known to have considered Jesus as being none other than the Teacher of Righteousness (see, for instance, I.D. Amusin's quoted work.) Jesus was the one to announce the Age of Aquarius: "a man will meet you carrying an earthen pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he goes in" (Luke 22:10; Mark 14:13.) The Last Supper was the symbol of the future "unio mystica." The cusp of time that has elapsed and the time that is still to come represents the apotheosis of the divine revelation, the opening of the seventh, therefore, the last chakra (Adi Sahasrara) of the Universal Being, the crowning of the whole evolutionary process. "In the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he is about to sound the trumpet, the mystery of God also shall be completed" (Revelation 10:7.) "The Omega point symbolises the end of the evolution towards the noosphere, the sphere of the spirit, towards which all knowledge converges" (Chevalier, Gheerbrant, p.26.) Sahasrara is the final point of the spiritual ascent, the Kingdom of Heavens. When asked by the Pharisees where the Kingdom of God lies, Jesus replied: "they shall not say, Lo here, or, Lo there; for behold, the Kingdom of God is in the midst of you" (Luke 17:21.) The opening of the Sahasrara at the level of the whole Creation, allowed for the awakening of the Kundalini energy en masse through Sahaja Yoga, which has been revealed to the whole mankind by Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, who witnessed that cosmic phenomenon Herself. The Adi Sahasrara was opened on May 5th, 1970. Scriptures foretold the collective manifestation of the Holy Spirit in the form of the Kundalini: "In the last days, saith God, I will pour out of My Spirit upon all flesh" (Acts 2:17.) This prophecy was announced long time ago by Isaiah (44:3), Ezekiel (36:27), Joel (2:28-29), Zechariah (2:10.) "I will give wonders in the heaven above and the signs on the earth below" (Acts 2:19; see Joel 2:30 too.) The wonder in the heaven was the opening of the cosmic Sahasrara. "Then, whatsoever shall call upon the name of [the] Lord shall be saved" (Acts 2:21; Joel 2:32.) Of course, it refers to the activation of the kundalini by taking mantras, a fact that is well-known by the Yogis. The Age of Aquarius is interpreted as the water of life pouring upon the people (the Kundalini), of the Spirit, of the Holy Ghost, in sign of harmony between the human microcosm and the divine macrocosm, of really attained "unio mystica" (Yoga.) But for this to take place, it is necessary that man should become Adam who had been created by God, as a divine embodiment "in His image" (Genesis 1:27; see also 5:1.) Because, as John said about the last coming of the Saviour: "What we shall be had not been manifested; we shall know that if it is manifested we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And every one that has this hope in Him purifies himself even as He is pure" (1 John 3:2-3.) In other words, man has to deify himself and that implies the purification at the energetic level, allowing for Kundalini to achieve the mystical union. At the human level, this purification will make the enlightenment possible . . . Levi H. Dowling (1844-1911) had transmitted . . . by revelation the Aquarian Gospel of Jesus, the Christ of the Piscean Age (L.N. Fowler & Co. Ltd., Romford, Essex) . . . Among Dowling's manuscripts there was one called "The Cusp of the Ages" describing the transfer of dominion from the Piscean Age to the Aquarian Age. It was published by Eva S. Dowling in the introduction to this gospel. Here is the description of the new era. "This age will be an age of splendour and of light, because it is the home of the Holy Breath; and the Holy Breath will testify anew for Christ, the Logos of the eternal Love. At first of every age this Logos is made manifest in flesh so man can see and know and comprehend a Love that is not narrow, circumscribed. Twelve times in every revolution of the sun this christed Love of God is made full manifest in flesh upon the planes of earth, and you may read it in Akasha the wondrous lessons that these Christs have taught to man" (p.15.) The gospel described the beginning of the Aquarian (= the one that bears the pitcher of water) Age as follows: "And then the man who bears the pitcher will walk across an arc of heaven. The sign and signet of the Son of man stands forth in the eastern sky. The wise will then lift up their heads and know that the redemption of the earth is near" (157.29,30.) And the accompanying footnote (within the French edition; our translation) explained: "From the beginning of this age, i.e. from this moment on, more and more people will try to understand the spirit of the Gospel instead of merely following its text. When the largest part of the human race has been penetrated by this spirit, to which this book makes its contribution, mankind will undoubtedly be in the Aquarian Age. That's why the Aquarian Gospel was given its present title." 5 |
