Yes - he finally let me scratch his head and face and pet him. Can you believe it! Friday nite was great! Sat nothing but Sunday nite was great again and tonight! I kept being with him and talking with him last week. My husband thinks he loves me already! He was making some funny movements with his head and nect in and out. He sure doesnt like when I petted my grey next to him and I think this did it. He saw all the love and wanted some too! He gets so jealous.

This is a huge step. I just emailed the previous owner too to tell her the progress we made. She emails me and I give her updates.

I am in this 100% and this is helping me for sure!

Patti

yes for sure. Again I just wanted to be sure that I was doing everything right as I wanted what was best for fig. I am trying to put in alot of time with Fig as my husband also does too.

We are having fun, maybe I was just alittle impatient!

GREAT!!  And it's only been 2 weeks.  I've been trying for 18 years to pet my Amazons and no luck.
Good for you Patti.  I logged on this morning before I left to run errands just to see if there was a post from you.  This starts my day "happy" now.

That is good news Patti and I'm happy to hear he will let you pet him.
Amazons are very independant (not like the Too you have and still more stubborn than a Grey) and there might be days he wants to be left alone, other days he'll expect some scritches.
I'm sure you can read the body language and those flashing eyes as to when to back off..
We all have to read ours every day so welcome to the ways of Amazons...

Yes it definitely was a great day -week for that matter! I am so thrilled. All weekend I kept saying to my husband, did you see me, he let me pet ,scratch him again. Had to rub it you know as he rubs it in how much clouseau the grey loves him! I am still thrilled yes totally!

I can read his body language. Love those orange eyes!! He never tries to get me when i change his food and water dishes on his play stand either but he tries to get my husband!

We are camping this weekend my daughters will be feeding him so I can only hope I don't move backwards seeing that I won't see him for 3 days. Maybe he will be so totally excited to see me Monday he will want scratchs.

He talked so much tonight but we could hardly make out what he was saying, someday I am sure I will. We just love it!

I was very appreciative of all your advice! And I do think I expected to much to early.

Patti

I think I will love him too. He is so comical. Just now have to work on a different plan on feeding him. When he eats on the play stand and rips up the paper, the food gets on the carpet. This is why I need to try to change something. I didnt want to at first to keep his routine the same, but I have to also consider the cleaning and the mess on the floor. With 2 dogs, this is not good having food on the floor as I can;t be there 100% of the time cleaning up after him.

I don't remember if you said what kind of playstand you have.  I have some large oversized beach towels that I put on each side of the playstand, all I have to do when he goes to bed, throw them into the washer and it keeps my carpets clean.

Congratulations on your progress!  That is such good news!  I'm so happy that your progressing.

By the way I use those hard plastic floor mats they use for offices.  The one I got is a big rectangle.  It doesn't have the piece that sticks out that some use for their chairs at a desk.  Cleans up reall nice.  Years ago I used clear plastic they use for dining room tables but after cleaning them alot they got funny.

When we had to rent a place for 2 months while our house was being built, we just bought a roll of this plastic matting at WalMart and cut what we needed.

I do the same thing as Sherry and use old large beachtowels over the chair where Scarlet looks out the window and then on the floor where he might poop...
Papers don't work for me on playstands as they fly about when the big wings get to flapping... I had some king size sheets that I didn't use and those I also cut into four pieces and found they also come in handy......
