They are so pretty. I'd take that little darker brown and white one in a heartbeat. Beautiful little bird. What is that tree? I don't think we have those in Oklahoma, although I bet we have some I have never seen. Annie |

That looks like a willow tree of some kind, not sure though. I had a couple of those chocolate/white society finches and they were really neat birds, Annie. They were the pair that used to foster my zebra finch babies...and did a great job too. I used to use apple tree branches for my finches, they liked them a whole lot better than just plain wooden dowel perches. You sure have some happy looking finches, 2Many. Very nice pictures, do you plan to keep the branches in after the leaves fall? |

Very nice, 2many! I wish my guys' cages were big enough to put big branches in. Each of my four is a different species, so I can't have a "communal" area for them. Abby |

thanks, everyone! Zonkersmom, is that what color those societies are called? chocolate? they are a pair; the one with the white tail is the little girl. i am really bad; they still have no names and ive had them a while. the light brown and white is Spirit, born september 11 or 12 2001; his parents were Enrique and Spice. hes a real sweetie. Cinnamon isnt in these but shes a very light brown and white; ill go through and find one of hers (i got her in the branches the next day). the "orange" canary is Frankie (male) the other one is Julia (i think a girl, she does sing a bit); Topper is the zebra finch (one leg); Timmy and Tammy are the orange cheek waxbills. the cage is handmade; about 4 feet long, 4 feet tall, and 2 feet wide; i lucked out and found it for only $100 at our local pet store when i bought Frankie a couple years back. i had quite a few more birds back then. i want to replace the screens and plexiglass eventually, and they warped the bottom (bath times), but the frame is in good shape. Annie, the tree is a willow, one of those quick growing hybrid types that our then-neighbor planted so her dogs would have shade. she moved out almost 2 years ago and the newest people bailed out a month ago, so the house is sitting empty. another huge branch came down so i will be working on getting more branches, lol. these pics were taken a week or so ago and ive added since then. i will be leaving a few in for them after the leaves are gone. the leaves seem to stay on well until they are removed by the birds, lol. ive got a huge branch in the room as well, and got some cute pics of Dolly (cockatiel) who discovered it yesterday. i also want to put smaller branches in all my other cages. extra branches i can give to my assorted rodents. |

My goodness, a willow. I had a willow and it got buggy and up and died on us. It was gorgeous but did look different than yours. I guess there are lots of varieties. I wish I had another one, but we are in such severe drought that I doubt that we could keep one alive now. I also had societies to foster my Gouldians to in case they didn't feed, but the Gouldians did so well we didn't have to foster the babies to them. Maybe I need a nap to rejuvenate my lousy memory.
