wow...Kenny got me a sewing machine for Christmas
Willie hooked me up a lighted magnifying glass (big)
to see with ...it'll be the first time I've sewed in over 10 years
I'm so excited!!!!
I thought the first thing I'd make would be a log-cabinny center
piece to go on the mantle over the wood burner...
but I need some ideas...
it's a pretty day so I'm going pine cone hunting about 1pm today
for the piece...I have some cream colored jute material (I had used
on Robins old cage) and I have twine...I also have use of willies scroll-saw
and really thin wood...all that together should make something
we don't have a tree this year...it's too hard on willie and dette having the boys
fighting over seas to put up a tree ...so they donated it to the Children's hospital
(I think that was a great idea).....but still they have nieces and nephews, sisters and brothers, etc...
so a little holiday cheer might be nice....I thought I'd cut out some stars (like on the flag) and wire them
willie-nilly together and stain them...that will be nice...but I can't come up with any other ideas
ya'll got any?
I'm so glad to be apart of ya'lls group...I don't feel so alone ...hey, maybe I could cut out some candy canes for Robin and Nippy to chew on ...but I don't think I should stain them

Don't have any ideas but so happy for you!  That was so nice of them to get you the sewing machine and modify it.

I was homebound for many yrs because of a varity of health problems so I understand very well.  I can just read the happiness in your posts!  Your two little babies seem to have brightened your life alot.  As for them with the wooden candy canes don't stain them.  Either leave them plain or use dye specifically made for bird toys.  I think some people here have even tried human food grade dye to give them some color.  Maybe someone will tell you how to do it.

oh , that's a great idea...dye them like Easter eggs...I thought too
I'ld take a paper clip and hook some fresh millet sprig onto them everyday for the holidays
they usually get siome every few days, cause it has to last as long as possible...but this is Christmas
my first with my feathered family

fleasea,
use the cake food coloring like from Wilton, add some to water to a plastic tub, like shoebox size and let the pieces soak for a bit. take them out and let them dry, then the birdies can chew on them and they will be safe. I use the UNFINISHED wooden pieces I find in the craft section at Walmart because they are thin, and already cut into fancy smancy pieces.    Mine love the moons and stars.  just drill a small hole and string them up.  I also get the little wooden chew blocks in the pet dept. for hamsters drill holes and string them on there too.
Have fun.  Glad to see you are going to be able to sew again...it is another of my passions too.
Sherry:)
