Hi Everybirdy!! It's September!! It feels like July or August here in the midwest , but fall should be making it's presence known soon! Been a heck of a week here at Che' Peck and Marsh. First off I spilled food and water in the bird room I had cleaned from top to bottom, and in the process of cleaning it up, slipped and fell! As I laid there in a mushed up bird food, water, and diet cherry coke mixture I hear a voice saying HA! Ha! HA!!!!! My Grey Beau must like pratfalls I guess. Pets are therapudic I have to keep telling myself this! My oldest son's truck was stolen and was found yesterday. It's wrecked pretty badly and tomorrow we're going to Omaha to see it. We are going up for my birthday anyway so it's just one more stop to make. The air conditioning was off for 4 days and I was running fans, misting the feathered and furry ones, and putting ice cubes in there their water. Yesterday the motor was replaced in the unit and we are chillin'. Today there was a small flood in the basement! A broken pipe did some ceiling damage. I was never so glad to have a shop vac in my life as it managed to suck up most of the water. I look back on this week and think arrrgggg for a minute and then think of the people that have lost their homes, families, pets, to Hurricane Katrina and suddenly the week isn't so awful. In fact it's a cake walk compared to what all that these people have been through. There are so many ways to help, so contact the Red Cross or the animal rescues and see what you can do to help! Nan ( who is putting her crappy week in perspective!) |

Checking in here from Southern Wisconsin. I had a fun weekend at the bird fair/seminar in St. Louis, MO. We met Mark Bittner, the Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill, he signed my book and we had our picture taken with him. I came home with a new baby, Mackenzie is a Hahn's Mini Macaw. She is a real cuddlebug. Of course, we bought toys toys toys. The clean up in Stoughton is progressing well, they lost a church and school to a fire one day and then the tornados hit the next day. The tornado and fire damage pales in comparison when you look at the damage from the huricane down south. My heart goes out to the people down there, they lost everything. May September bring better days. Maharet |

I agree with you Nan. This whole last year has been one big mess, and then I see the pics of New Orleans, Gulfport, etc and realize I don't have it so bad. I hope you didn't hurt yourself when you fell. I try to be so careful since the shoulder dislocation 2ys ago, but then I get busy and forget. It seems funny to hear anyone talk about fall, since we don't have one. We sort of go from summer (9mo) to winter (3mo) with nothing in between. We've been breaking records all week, with temps between 99 & 102. It doesn't even really cool down at night. We usually get our first cold front sometime towards the middle of Oct. I can hardly wait. My bed is calling. Everyone but me is bedded down for the night. Hope you all had a good evening. Peggy |

Checking in here from Glen Burnie, Maryland. All is well with us and our fids. Gas prices are rising as well as tempers as everyone awaits impending rising prices on everything. My Allegra is finally molting some of the old nasty feathers she has had for the last 3 years and is starting to brighten up and Bogart is just a ham getting attention and scritches where ever he can. He is just so darn cute!!!!! |

Hello from Rochester, N.Y. Things are pretty "normal" here with me and my flock. Yesterday was Shami's birthday. (my Senegal). He was 13--my teenager! He's such a sweet, clever little guy. We had a party with pizza, grapes and a cake. A good time was had by all. It's now been a year since Fig died and I continue to miss him terribly. He was one in a million. Elmo comforts me with his sweetness and funny ways. He'll come up to me and say "Kiss me". He'll ask, "What's the matter?" Caillou is going thru the "terrible two's" and drives me nuts. (my Red and Dusky Lories). Nicky is an angel and Simba (Cockatiels) is in love with Sidney (Mourning Dove). And that's what's what with my flock. OH! I forgot Isaac--(TAG). He's fine. Hangs out in everyone else's cage and chows down on their food. Laughs at secret jokes after I cover him for the night! Hope you and yours are all well. Marion |

Greetings from northern Arkansas. Gorgeous, Boo, Sugar, Lollipop, my husband and I are fine. That's such a simple statement but this week it takes on a whole new meaning. |

"Rain, rain, go away. Little Becky wants to play." Becky used to say this when she was little and she wanted to play outside. It's been raining off and on for a week and is supposed to keep it up through Sat. We needed it so bad but enough, is enough! I swear I can 'hear' the grass growing. We got finished in my bathroom yesterday and will start on the other one Mon. The floors in both needed repair and I needed new vanities in both of them. When that is done I can start on the papering and painting. I have a list of 'have to' and 'want to' and we must do the 'have tos' first. I am so looking forward to the weekend. Between Billys soccer and swimming and Davids football, it seems all we do is run back and forth to town. Next week Billy starts drivers ed, so that's another trip. It will all finish up around Dec. if we can hold out that long. I need to start feeding the birds and get ready for work. Hope you all have a great day! Peggy |

Hello from Florida and we could use some of that rain Peggy. The last rains were when Katrina came through, not a drop since........ and I'm not sure if any is forecast. Birds and myself are fine, trying to survive this heat and humidity. We don't have fall and usually we go directly into the winter months, Jan. and Feb. It has been the hottest year I can remember since comming here as in March it began and has never let up. Too2 |

I know what you mean Too2. We don't have a fall either. Our first cool front usually comes in mid Oct. and by Mar. we are back to summer. We enjoy it while it's here though. I love to turn off the AC's and open all the windows. We will start on the porch next week and I'm looking forward to that. It's something I've wanted to do since I bought the house. It's a lovely porch but has never been used that much. Now I will be able to get some use out of it. Our rain seems to have departed. Now of course the grass needs to be cut again. We got a real soaking so we won't need any more for a while. Something got into the chicken house and got my chickens. I way out in the country so it could be several things. Billy and I worked all day on it a couple of weeks ago and I thought it was secure. I'm not getting anymore until I am sure NOTHING can get in there. I need to get busy. Hope you all have a good evening. Peggy |

I'm typing this on my new conputer. I got so tired of the other one being in the shop, so I bought a new one. I got it up and running by myself so I feel pretty good about it. I've watch the news unfolding till my eyes are crossed so I'm going to give it up and go to bed. My prayers will be with all those in the path of the storm tonight. Peggy |

Tomorrow we are heading up to Omaha to a bird show, then we have to do the bi monthly pet food shopping etc and we're staying over night at Jake's. He and Jess areleaving for Tennessee to visit her mom, and we are taking his cats back to our place. At this point it's the only "grandchildren" we have, and we're gonna spoil em!!! I'm hoping to find a better cage for Dolly while I'm at the show He's in such a small one now. Looking for birdy stuff and as always birdy food. We have a little kitten at the vet's up there. Wayne found her under the porch ands we think the mother left her there to die. she has some neuro problems and won't suck on a bottle. They are having to tube feed her. I have a feeling we'll be having to put her to sleep and I hate the thought. We also have two more kittens to take up as well. One has a hernia and the other has an eye problem. Also Rams needs to go for his wellness check,. he's been here almost 22 days all ready, so it won't be too long until he can join the flock. I hope everybirdy had a good weekend! Nan |

Wish I was going to a bird fair. I haven't been to one since I got Holly and she will be 2 in Feb. I did order Savannahs new cage, then canceled the shipping untill we could see where Rita was headed. I called them yesterday and told them to go ahead and ship. It should take about a week. I put new manzanita in perches in Sugars cage and the silly bird is sitting on the food dish, like she never saw one of them before. It's the same thing she had in her other cage. We are going to start on the porch this next week and I am so excited. Maybe I can get things organized at last. I need to get busy and do some work around here. I've spent way too much time on this computer this weekend. Peggy |
