Matt. 20:26-So the last shall be first, and the first last:   for MANY  be  called,  but few  CHOSEN.

So, my question --  who   are   the   CHOSEN.

What is the difference in being  CALLED,     AND    CHOSEN?

Joie

Hello!  This is Matthew 20:16.
Called and chosen....Are you referring to preaching and teaching?  If so, then you'd be better off to be chosen than called because sometimes the voice they hear is not God and their ministry falls flat.  Chosen....Jesus picked his disciples and Apostles, did He not?
Are we as Christians who believe in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, are we not His "Chosen" ones...the ones He prayed for in John 17 verse 21, that we may be "one".  In verse 9 He said He was praying for "them which thou hast given me; for they are thine."
I need to give this more thought.
Love to you,
Spiritwalker

 Dear Spiritwalker,

Thanks for the correction:  yes,  I looked at Matt. 20:16,  but did a typo-error.

I do not think it is referring to preachers; but rather to eternal life.

I also need to do some more studying into this.  It is deep.

Jesus said a measure of faith is given to everyone.  I think the 'many' are called - means all are given a chance at salvation.

But remember Jesus said  wide is the gate and broad is the way which leads to hell;  and   MANY  there be which go into it.

There is your  MANY.

He said straight and narrow is the way which leads to eternal life;  and  FEW  there be which go into it.

There you have the  CHOSEN.   The  CHOSEN  are the  ELECT;   those who endure until the end;  those who follow the LAMB  wheresoever HE  goes or leads them.

THEY ARE THE  ONES WHO MAKE IT INTO ETERNAL LIFE   BY BEING OBEDIENT  TO THE WORD OF GOD.

******* 11Cor. 7:1 *******

Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved let us  CLEANSE  ourselves from  ALL FILTHINESS  of the  FLESH   and  SPIRIT, perfecting          HOLINESS         IN THE FEAR OF GOD.

Those of us who obey this verse ~~~~~~  clean  our  flesh   and  our  spirit up;  and perfect   HOLINESS,   without which no  one shall see the Lord,,,   we  are  the  CHOSEN.

Well, I found this discussion very interesting.  I found this on the subject;  I think it will shed some more light on this question of who are the chosen.

11 Thes. 2:13--But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

v14--Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ..

v15--Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.

This shows that those who are called by the gospel, and are sanctified by the Spirit and stand fast without falling, then are the  CHOSEN  of God.  He chose to save those who are obedient to the Word.

" I do not think itis refering to Preachers; but rather to eternal life."
Samson was Chosen before he was born.
Gideon was called and Chosen.
Samuel was Chosen
Elisha was caled by Elijah, but was chosen by God,
If you are Chosen for a Position, has nothing to do with your salvation,
Salvation you have to Accept or reject.
You believe and accept Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved.

The many who are called is the complete family of the elect (jacob have I loved rom 9 11-13) the chosen are those of the remenant, those of the jacob have I loved who's eyes are open to the gospel, the visible church, look at john 11:25-26, notoce a dead person believes, how can this be. the death that is under consideration is one who's eyes are not open to the gospel, the other is one who is chosen, his eyes are open to the gospel and can belive or reject, this is a very deep subject but using the scriptures rightly divided will give a better understanding odf the visible Kingdom...

Hello Bro. Shobec,

I see the 'remnant' as being all saved people.  Paul said, All Israel shall be saved.  Lots of people mistakeningly think this is saying God is going to save all what they call natural Jews.  Nothing could be further from the truth.

Paul also said, if ye belong to Christ, then are ye Abraham's seed and heirs according to the promise.

He said "he is not a Jew which is one OUTWARDLY,  but he IS  a Jew which is one inwardly.

That is us.

We are the remnant of Israel.  We are the saved ones.  We are the chosen.  God called all who lived to come and take of the water of life freeely.  But most will not do this.  So God chose the ones of us who obey.

When it said God hardens whom he will, you must realize that God does not CHOOSE  one person to harden, and another to have compassion.  Not for one minute.

God hardens those who are evil, disobedient and sinful;  he uses them for his own purpose.  After all, we all belong to him.  He has mercy on those of us who obey His Word.

We are the true Jacob.  The chosen.

Jo

Hi Gang ,
   Called   means  invited
    Chosen     is     LAID   OUT
         The verse   is  :   Matt 20: 16
When we READ   any verse IN CONTEXT  ,   With the
surrounding verses  we get     TRUTH ,   WHOLE TRUTH  , not
Partial Truth  , or bits n pieces , or crumbs  or the  tail of the thought of the writer .
All men are called to work in the vinyard  ......INVITED /called.
All men are called to salvation  .For God so LOVED the world.
Anyway ,            Matt 20 : 16      The first word is" SO",
showing there are verses before  that explain this verse .
10,000 preachers of different Demoms will explain verse 1 - 16
as they were taught before them .
YOU  should read yourself  {always]  and see what THE TRUTH ,THE WAY , THE LIGHT   says .
But, to this  uncolleged one ,
WE ARE ARE CALLED / invited  ,  by the same DEAL,
 Testament / Agreement/Covenant   / CONTRACT  .
SOME  are  SERVANTS  , in Worship /LAID out ,
to do the will of the  Lord of the vineyard , TO LOVE  THEIR
NEIGHBOR  .
SAUL /PAUL   was  dedicated to GOD ALMIGHTY
even to persecuting  those of the church .
EVEN  he needed   to learn  TRUTH .
We are all  invited , we are NOT all  chosen  [   which is CHOICE }   as    CHOICE   cuts of steak  .
Some are complainers , envious , selfish , THANK GOD for
 Grace .
A SERVANT of the LORD is  not just a bible reader ,or a hearer of    Christ   {the word }    , BUT  ,  ...............a doer.
That CHOICE SERVANT  can be used of Christ /LOVE  ,
  that  SERVANT is CHOSEN .
   ---------------------------------- also,
 Matt 22 : 14       from verse 1   and on.
I be one of the many    of v 9
If you are a free guest of a wedding , of  a free gift of eternal life .
We should dress accordingly  , we should  respect the  host.
     MATTHEW   22 : 40
Many are invited , but FEW are "choice"
few are laid out  Loving their Neighbor .
