ARMOURED DIVISIONAL SIGNAL REGIMENT ORGANISATION

Organisation

We would expect the organisation of a Signal Regiment supporting an armoured division to be as follows:

Armoured Divisional Signal Regiment Organisation

Notes:
(1) SAN - Secondary Access Node
(2) A Divisional HQ will have two HQs to allow for movement and possible destruction. The main HQ will be set up for approx 24 hours, with the alternate HQ (Alt HQ) set up 20-30 kms away, on the proposed line of march of the division. When the Main HQ closes to move to a new location, the Alt HQ becomes the Main HQ for another 24-hour period.
(3) Expect a Brigade Signal Sqn to have a Radio Troop and a SAN Troop.

Royal  Signals units are currently operating the following types of major equipment:

  • Static strategic communications

  • Mobile strategic satellite communications

  • Fixed and mobile electronic warfare (EW) systems

  • Tactical Area Communications ?corps to brigade down to battalion HQ

  • VHF Combat Net Radios ?battalion and sub-units

  • Tactical HF and UHF radios ?battalion and sub-units

  • Radio Relay (carrying telephone & teleprinter links)

  • Teleprinters, Fax, CCTV and ADP Equipment

  • Computer Information Systems

  • Local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN) for computers
