LOGISTIC SUPPORT IN BOSNIA | An excellent example of RLC operations, is what happened in Bosnia between 1 January and 31 October 1996, following the entry of the NATO IFOR force into the area:
| AMMUNITION | | Tonnage held at 2nd Line | 1,488 tons | | | PETROL, OIL AND LUBRICANTS | | Litres drawn | 36 million | Disposal of waste oil/fuel | 300,000 litres | LPG filled | 518,000kg | | | RATIONS | | Total issued to units | £8.128 million | Fresh ration issues to units | 15,479 pallets | | | TRANSPORT | | Total kms travelled | 7.050 million | DROPS movements | 3,307kms | TTF movement | 448,000kms | Tank transporter movement | 942,000kms | Armoured vehicle movements | 1,608,000kms | | | MOVEMENTS | | Containers received into theatre | 1,194 | Containers dispatched out of theatre | 543 | Vehicle loads into theatre (40ft vehicles) | 1,170 | Loaded rail wagons received | 325 | Loaded rail wagons dispatched | 39 | Flights to/from theatre | 1,111 | Equipment flown into theatre | 1,259 million kgs | | | MATERIEL | | Demands received from units | 234,305 | Receipts into theatre | 5,155,227kgs | | | POSTAL | | Receipts (surface) | 96,000kgs | Receipts (air) | 342,000kgs | Dispatches (surface) | 36,000kgs | Dispatches (air) | 63,000kgs | Blueys (received) | 2.572 million | Blueys (dispatched) | 6.628 million | | | LAUNDRY AND BATHS | | Laundry washed | 249,322 bags | Showers provided | 98,582 personnel | | | There are some fascinating statistics included in the above list. Blueys are the name given to the lightweight, blue-coloured forces airmail letters. The fact that about 2.6 times more letters were written by troops in Bosnia than were received, will probably keep a horde of social scientists in employment for some considerable time. | |
