Artillery MOC (021)

Royal Canadian Horse Artillery Royal Canadian Artillery Regiment d'artillerie legere du Canada

The Canadian Artillery is broken down into  two main functions.  Field and horse artillery are the classifications of the field guns (usually towed) regiments.  There are no horse drawn guns anymore.   Field guns are towed, while horse regiments are normally tracked arty and howitzers.

Air Defence is self-explanatory, in that it is anything to do with the protection against aircraft.

Engineers are responsible for everything from minesweeping and explosives, to combat diving and bridge building.  This varied nature of the Engineer Corps is what makes it attractive to so many people.

Infantry MOC (031)

Infantry is the standard combat career used to hold ground.  The 'grunt' trade is one of the most numerous and branching of all military careers.  The standard Infantry is considered Wheeled or Mechanized, as they use vehicles to get to the objective and in support of them.  Mechanized uses M113's, while Wheeled uses Bison, Grizzly or LAV-25.

In 1994, Canada lost its only 'jump' regiment in an involving scandal while the Regiment was in Somalia.  In 1997, in response to the wars, a Jump Company was stood up, though not as an official Regiment (1st Canadian Light Infantry).  Airborne troops are trained to fall behind enemy lines and fight from there.  They are highly trained and capable of amazing feats.

Naval Infantry is new to Canada, though the Regiment has done well for itself.  These Infantry soldiers are highly trained in amphibious assaults and littoral warfare.  Naval Infantry uses Bison's, Grizzly and LAV-25.

Joint Task Force 2 MOC

Stood up after the RCMP Anti-Terrorist Unit was removed, the JTF2 took the next step from reactive homeland security, to pro-active combat missions.  Able to deal with counter-terrorism as well as all nature of military operations, the JTF2 is Canada's most secretive organization.

As a joint force, JTF2 is open to all military careers, as long as they make the minimum requirement.  Standard signing is for one term, though many opt for longer.  They have done much in action, though most is highly classified, and therefore unverifiable.

Ranger MOC

Created in British Columbia in WWII after the shelling of Canada by a Japanese submarine, the Rangers were charged with protecting the many 'wild' stretches of coast line from enemy invaders.  Once the war was won, the Rangers were kept as a minimum force, mainly in name.  In the 70's, Canada took renewed interest in its tundra and the people who lived in it.  The Rangers were given much more funding, to give them the ability to patrol, SAR and train others in the survival of the Canadian tundra and Arctic.
