Korea Memorial From 1950 until 1953 the Korps played a major part in training volunteers for the Dutch United Nations Detachment in Korea. The small Memorial at the barracks commemorates this period. The Memorial, a design of an ex-Korea volunteer, Mr Goedschalk from Bergen op Zoom, was unveiled by Young Kyo Yom, the ambassador of South-Korea, on 12 February 1982. The inscription on the memorial says: "This Korean stone symbolises the gratitude of Korea to the commandos of the Korps Commandotroepen that were killed in action and to those who have been trained here for the Dutch United Nations Detachment 1950-1953". This Memorial too was temporarily been placed at the Cort Heyligersbarracks in Bergen op Zoom, and is be placed back at the Engelbrecht van Nassaubarracks in July of 2002. Next to the Memorials that are situated at the barracks there are several other Memorials that are linked with the Korps Commandotroepen and its mother units. |
