23 December 2005 As Christmas approaches, British soldiers and sailors serving on operations around the globe are preparing as best they can for the festivities.

Three military officers who all come from the small village of Formby in Merseyside have met for the first time whilst working thousands of miles away in the same office in Iraq.
22 December 2005 Tony Blair flew into Basra on Thursday morning for a surprise Christmas visit to British troops in Iraq.  His official spokesman said Mr Blair wanted to show his and the nation's gratitude to the 8,500 servicemen and women stationed there.
16 December 2005 Situated near a pleasant suburb of southern Baghdad, in a bend of the River Tigris, is Al-Rustamayah Iraqi Military Academy (IMAR).  This formidable looking building, which commands an area blessed with acres of date palms and small arable land to the south, is the training centre for potential officers wishing to join the new Iraqi Army.

Amid the heat, rain and cold of Iraq a young soldier from the Isle of Wight has been using his painting skills to create a lasting tribute to the work of his colleagues.
