2 Feb 06 With great sadness and regret, the Ministry of Defence confirmed the death of Trooper Carl Smith of the 9th/12th Royal Lancers (Prince of Wales's) as a result of a vehicle accident whilst on operations in Abu Al Khasib, south of Basra, Iraq.

31 Jan 06 With great regret the Ministry of Defence confirmed that Corporal Gordon Alexander Pritchard from the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards died from injuries sustained as a result of an explosion at approximately 0534GMT in Um Qasr in Basrah Province.  He had been commanding the lead Snatch Landrover in a three-vehicle convoy on a routine rations and water run.
30 Jan 06 With great sadness the Ministry of Defence confirmed the death of Lance Corporal Allan Douglas, in Iraq.  Whilst on a routine patrol in Al Amarah, Lance Corporal Douglas was shot and mortally wounded.  Despite the best efforts of his comrades and the medical teams he later died of his wounds.
29 Jan 06 71 Army medics from 205 (Scottish) Field Hospital (Volunteers) were presented with their Iraq Medals at a parade and presentation which took place at Redford Cavalry Barracks in Edinburgh.
27 Jan 06 The lifespan of MoD's Lynx helicopter engines could be drastically increased thanks to a pioneering programme currently underway in Iraq.  Two Gem engines, fitted to an Army Lynx, are being tested with a new erosion-resistant coating to assess whether it can help reduce sand erosion.
25 Jan 06 Major General John Cooper, Commander of the Multi National Division (South East) said that progress being made in the capability and training of Iraqi policemen and Department of Border Enforcement officers was vital to the future of the new Iraq.  He was speaking on his first visit to the Joint Training Academy at Shaibah in southern Iraq, since taking over command of the Division last month
24 Jan 06 Two serving Iraqi policemen and another Iraqi male were arrested and detained in and around Basrah City during the early hours of the morning as part of a wider operation to root out corruption in the Iraqi Police Service.  The operation was conducted by British troops serving with 7th Armoured Brigade.
16 Jan 06 A Royal Air Force Fireman, based at Basra Air Station in southern Iraq has been sharing his love of Salsa dancing with his colleagues, teaching classes during his nights off.  During his four month tour of duty in Iraq, Corporal Malcolm, 'Baz' Barratt wanted to keep up with his dancing and thought that teaching some moves to his colleagues would be the most fun way to do it.
12 Jan 06 British soldiers have been quick to provide assistance to the people of Safwan in southern Iraq after flooding forced hundreds of them to abandon their homes.  A torrential rainstorm overnight saw 12½ cm (5 inches) of rain fall in three hours in the town. As a result, 1,300 residents were faced with no choice but to leave their houses and take shelter in a local community hall.
