8 Mar 06 Focus, the newspaper for people in defence, article: Days of differences at Basra; a civilian's perspective
7 Mar 06 A team of RAF Regiment gunners have foiled an attempt to attack the British base at Basra Airport.  Sergeant Jonathon Tointon, aged 35, and Corporal Harry Jardine, aged 27, of 51 Squadron RAF Regiment from RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland, thwarted the potential attack, catching a local man red-handed as he attempted to fire rockets at personnel located in the air station.
6 Mar 06 For the men and women of Tactical Supply Wing (TSW), detachments to Iraq are second nature.  After a significant contribution to the successful entry of coalition forces into Iraq in 2003, the Stafford-based wing has, ever since, provided fuel to all types of coalition helicopters in southern Iraq.

A father and daughter both serving in Iraq, who have not seen each other for over two years, finally came face to face in the military air terminal at Basra Air Station - just as Dad was preparing to fly home.  Wing Commander Steve Howard and daughter, Sergeant Kelly Howard, have both been serving with British Forces in Iraq.

28 Feb 06 It is with great sadness and regret that the Ministry of Defence confirmed the deaths of Captain Richard John Holmes and Private Lee Ellis from 2nd Battalion The Parachute Regiment in Al Amarah, Iraq.  They were killed when a roadside bomb exploded as they conducted a routine patrol.
27 Feb 06 HMS Montrose is conducting maritime security operations with coalition forces in the Northern Arabian Gulf as part of Operation Telic.  Now well into her six-month deployment, the Devonport-based ship is working under a rotational command currently held by the UK under Commodore Bruce Williams.
20 Feb 06 Secretary of State for Defence John Reid has called for a greater understanding of the challenges faced by UK military personnel, and less uninformed criticism.

The people of North Luffenham have spread some happiness to Iraqi children in a Basrah orphanage in the Al Andolous area by donating boxes of clothing, toys, babies' equipment and other gifts to them.

15 Feb 06 The Department of Border Enforcement in southern Iraq will be more capable and effective following the delivery of eight new fuel trucks in the provinces of Al Basrah, Maysan and Al Muthanna.

Acquired to keep the grass down in a British base in southern Iraq, Ben the Goat is now fully established as the boss in Camp Abu Naji, Al Amarah.

12 Feb 06 The Ministry of Defence can confirm that a serving soldier has been arrested in connection with very serious allegations of abuse arising from video footage obtained by a Sunday newspaper.
8 Feb 06 Lance Corporal Allan Douglas, of The Highlanders (Seaforth, Gordons and Camerons), Corporal Gordon Pritchard from the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards and Trooper Carl Smith of the 9th/12th Royal Lancers (Prince of Wales's) were repatriated to RAF Brize Norton.

HRH The Duke of Kent, Colonel in Chief of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers and Deputy Colonel in Chief Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, has visited British troops serving on operations in Iraq.

7 Feb 06 "Not firepower, but willpower" - In a speech to the Foreign Press Association in London, Defence Secretary John Reid set out the conditions under which coalition forces can complete the handover of security in Iraq.
