Tell Me the Stories of the Sea

 Tied to the quayside
 Reflected by a silver moon
It sways gently with the waves
 The sound of its heart
 Beats from the engine room
 Where the smell of diesel
 Clings to its soul

 The light from the wheelhouse
 Throws atmosphere over the deck
 Catching the silver-grey mist
 That creeps over the bow

 Where have you travelled
 What sights have you seen?
 Please speak to me!
Reveal those secrets of the sea
 Tell me those seafaring tales
The ones passed down through time
 By sailors, who chewed tobbacco
Wore flat caps and roll neck sweaters
 Those jack-tars!
Whose faces are weathered and hands hardened
By the cruel icy, salt sea winds!
Tell me about the pains they endured!
 What about the superstitions?
 The ones that followed them
 Across the oceans of time
 Tell me about the ghosts!
The ones that lurk beneath the waves
And appear from the heavy stillness
 Of the deep dark water
 Please!
Tell me the stories of the sea!
