Army deploy heavy guns in victory march Army 41 - 15 Navy Christopher Lyles at Twickenham Sunday May 8, 2005 The Observer
The annual skirmish between the Army and the Royal Navy at Twickenham remains a marvellous anachronism in an increasingly congested rugby calendar, and it seems to be getting bigger and better by the year. Twenty-four hours before the sixtieth anniversary of VE Day, a record crowd of 44,732 descended on headquarters to watch the final contest of this year's Inter-Services Championship, a match in which the Army started as firm favourites after outgunning the Royal Air Force 57-12. |
