PETA strikes again.......

Irvine, Calif. - "Just bought a brand-new purebred puppy? Welcome him or her into your home with a free gift bag! Call us today at 1-xxx-xxx-xxxx to claim your bag and hear about our products," reads a new ad appearing in the July 7 issue of Dog Fancy magazine, which is on newsstands now. But when respondents call the number, they'll learn that the ad was placed by PETA and that the bag offered is really a body bag--for the unlucky dog in an animal shelter who is "sentenced to death" because the respondents bought a purebred pup from a breeder or a pet store.

The recorded message explains the hard facts to callers: Buying a puppy means that a dog in an animal shelter loses the chance for adoption, which means that one more dog will be needlessly destroyed. Callers are also told to practice their ABCs--animal birth control--by getting their new dog "fixed" to avoid adding further to the canine overpopulation crisis. Callers are encouraged to adopt, not buy, their next canine companion. The ad is the latest salvo in PETA's national ABC campaign.

Bogus Ad Placed in Dog Fancy

Fake offer was designed to harass puppy lovers.

Internet message boards lit up on July 16, 2008, after an animal-rights organization issued a press release claiming it had placed a “crafty?ad in DOG FANCY magazine, published by the parent company of DogChannel.

BowTie Inc. does not accept advertising from this animal-rights organization because of its agenda to halt all dog breeding in the U.S.

The classified ad was placed by a private party on behalf of the animal-rights organization using a fake business name.

“DOG FANCY does not knowingly accept advertising from PETA and does not agree with its extremist views,?the company said in a statement. “Unfortunately, the organization resorted to guerilla tactics by placing an ad in DOG FANCY under a pseudonym to deceive readers with a free gift bag offer, opting to use shock tactics to try to get its message heard.

“Now in its 37th year, DOG FANCY promotes responsible dog ownership, including the responsible breeding and sale of purebred dogs, and apologizes to anyone who has been offended by this organization’s distasteful and misleading stunt.?/P>

 http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/PetAnimalOwnersRights/

Description

This group is intended to help slow the erosion of pet animal owners rights in the United States through education of the American public and legislators. The civil rights of pet animal owners are under assault everywhere. Misguided attempts to address the alleged unwanted animal overpopulation, often led by animal rights organizations, have led to mandatory spay/neuter legislation and pet ownership limits in many areas. Many times, these laws passed due to the vocal nature of the AR supporters, in opposition to the lack of response from pet owners.

NOW IS YOUR TIME TO RESPOND!

Better yet, you can make a difference by behaving proactively. This group will be dedicated to educating the public and local governments through letter writing/email campaigns or through phone calls when appropriate. This group will not participate in or lend support to public protests, nor does it advocate violence of any kind.

bunch of people waiting for a direction to take--I'd like to attract a
few more people and start talking about tactics and letter templates.
Anyone from this group is more than welcome to participate. I've set
the group up so that anyone can sign up as a member, since my schedule
is so haphazard, so anyone can join and start posting ideas as the
spirit moves them.
