Hi all,
Today Jim and I travel to Chicago for Jim to receive an LVAD (artificial heart pump). He will be there for 3-5 days for tests and if all is a go, surgery could be the beginning of next week. Recovery after surgery would be about a month in the hospital. The main concern for the surgeon is finding a way "in" due to previous surgery scarring. Without this pump, Jim's life expectancy is less than one year.
I am very scared, as the surgeon has told us that Jim is very high risk (Cleveland Clinic and Northwestern Hospitals both declined to do the surgery) due to his several past surgeries and his artificial valve.
Because I must work, I will be commuting to Chicago as scheduling allows. This is the hardest part for me.....leaving Jim alone down there.
I am asking that you keep Jim in your prayers. I will try to keep everyone updated.
Thank you so much!!
Love,
Pat
