Just curious - I got the CWA newsletter and it says in the new contract there is language regarding the importance of front line employees and how the company was going to treat them with respect. Where is this? Am I missing something? Or is this in reference to organization specific things and not just overall ie ALL employees in ALL organizations will be treated with respect.
(note - discussing something that came from the CWA)

RESPECT?????????????????????? What is that? Is that like my putting the toilet seat up before I piss so that Renee Coddington does not sit in it? Or my flushing the pot after I drop an Ed?

and what i just dont get is the language regarding specific organizations by the name ie coddington - now what will happen if they retire, move to another dept etc. or what if they split up the groups - where was the language in the contract to cover all possible scenarios?

i just dont get the respect part.

cwa was even boasting about the 4 year contract and they make it sound so glowing  = modest increase in healthcare costs - yes unless you a retiree.

sorry for venting - and i repeat i am discussing the cwa newsletter.

Am I reading this correctly? They are NOT mailing out hard copies of the contract? Geez...people wont read them when they have them....Now they have too look it up online...I notice they don't say WHERE it will be available. This is just another union busting tactic it seems to me.

If you don't have your own personal hard copy of the contract you won't be able to access it off hours from anywhere but a company computer.   Everyone should make a request for their own copy and read it cover to cover.  Use it, abide by it, grieve whenever necessary to insure compliance.  This isn't the first contract that wasn't widely distributed.  The company truly believes ignorance is bliss for them.  If you don't know you won't complain, you won't grieve.

My suggestion is that we never agree to not provide every member a hard copy of the contract within 30 days of ratification. That the company also agree to make it available online in a 'read only' format, accessible from any computer, in or outside the company network.  You shouldn't have to have secureID card or any other password to get to that document.  That CWA make it available on their website, in totality within 48 hrs of a tentative agreement, and then post and maintain the ratified contract and subsequent letters of agreement, Q letters, etc. so that any member and retiree can access the documents that impact the quality of their lives on and off the job.

Once folks have the contract in hand, everyone should take the time to read it, cover to cover.  Don't just hit the highlights, read it all.  When you take statements out of context, you lose sight of what's really happening. You can't pick and choose a phrase or sentence, it's the whole section that matters.  Don't wait until you need it or a steward to protect you or save you on the job.  If, after reading this document, if you have questions, then bring them up to your steward, a local officer or gather a bunch of your friends and head on down the hall for the next general membership meeting and ask the questions there.  I'm willing to bet if you don't understand something or have a question, there are at least a dozen or more of your fellow compatriots who do as well.  Knowledge is power.  Your managers won't have half the opportunities that you do to find the answers to your questions.

I believe that a copy of the CWA-Qwest contract can be found with a little digging on the Department of Labor's web site, as all labor contracts have to be filed with them.  So this isn't company confidential or proprietary if it can be posted there and read. (I found the previous contract there when researching the health insurance questions, all the health care, benefit and retirement plans are posted there as well.)

Hope one and all have a very happy holiday season.  May the new year be better than the last, may we all stay healthy, get healthier, keep our jobs, keep our sanity, keep our homes, and finish 2009 a little bit better off than where we are tonight!

Why does a four year contract expire in 3 years? Also, why does it refer to the tentative agreement date as occuring August 17th, instead of October? Methinks Reed and the staff have just posted the original crappy agreement, not the new and improved crappy agreement.

Why is Q letter 266 so different on the performance plan for net techs from what the Union said on their website as our agreement? Specifically the removal of the requirement for ALL steps to be met, and the removal of documented discussion from their steps. Anybody have an answer?????

Request a copy and do not access that from any company computer or it will be interpreted as doing union business using company resources. Make them provide a copy..
