I've found that eating high-protein meals like fish, steak, burgers means that half of the protein grams end up as "carbs" many hours later. So, if I eat some fish with 50g carb, that means that I will have a 25g carb effect on my blood sugar about 5 hours later. My doc says "we've seen "some" diabetics with this, and my dietitian seems to think this is uncommon. have other diabetics here had high sugars after high protein meals? |

My pump and Palm Pilot has a program for this, but the directions said the protein amount has to be really really way up there (like a giant steak.) |

I've not had a problem with protein going to carbs.....I eat Ezekial bread which is made of sprouted grains...each slice is like 14 gr. of carb but it is digested as 100% protein and it doesn't affect my bs's at all...on either level. |

I do...last night I had chicken for dinner, and had a higher morning sugar than when I have my usual Lean Cuisine mac and cheese. The mac and cheese shows up as a higher sugar in one hour...which is easily fixed by taking Humalog to match the carbs prior to dinner. But chicken? Or some other protein? Harder to match to the insulin. So normally, I just up my Lantus, which is trickier. Also, harder to calculate the percentage which will be metabolized completely into sugar by morning. So there is a computer program? Will wonders never cease? |

I get it at our local health food store.... it's 4 dollars a loaf (20 slices) a bit extra but it is 100% flourless and works well with my diabetes. It is a hearty and really good toasted bread! I think there's a website called, Food For Life. They are the ones that make it. see ya. Peace,Cheryl |
