Hi Everyone, hope everyone's ok. I was diagnosed on August 6 with type 2.  It's very hard to change my eating habits. I'm a sugarholic and love bread. My glucose reading have been within normal range except for today. This morning it was 69. I have not been able to see a dietician because not covered by insurance. I don't know how to count carbs and no clue how much I should eat a day. I'm having sharp stabbing pain under my foot with a burning sensation, should I be concerned? Any information would gladly appreciated.

Thank You All!!!!!!!!!!

Hello Betty,
Welcome to the group, I'm sure the type 2's will be able to answer your questions for you.
I have copied your post over to the General board so everyone can welcome you too.

There should be a Registered Dietician available at your local hospital that could help you.  I don't know what insurance you have but they are behind the times if they don't cover diabetes help such as an RD.
Anytime that your feet and lower legs cause you pain, you should see a podiatrist and insurance should cover that.

Betty you need to go to the book store and spend the day reading!! I guess the best thing to say about eating is don't eat thing that is white,[white flower, bread white, potatoes, and so on,] wheat breads are ok and rye is the next good bread. Eat lots of Veggies, EXCEPT leave corn, beets, carrotes, and go easy on the peas. All these makes a sugar spike in your system. Also does fruits but at a slower rate.
Every system is differant so what I have done in the past is . Like potatoes a thing I love test before eating and again 2 hrs after and just see what you can eat, It'll take time put this is what I have done, I can eat a baked potato with salt, peper, and butter diabetic friendly, and have less problems then I do with french fries.
as far as eating amounts I went to the South beach diet book and followed it , not all the way , I hate diets, but that would be a start,,,
About your sharp pain in your feet, I would say go see your doctor, Its what some of us get with diabetes and its called Neuropathy[ Damage to the nerves.]  I take Gabapentin 300 mgs 3 times aday.

I hope this will get you started with your eating habits and your diabetes, Check around and see if there isn't a diabetic group that meets once or twice a month, Our group meets once a month at the hospital wellness center, lots of good people and good infomation in those places,,, Take care
