Hello, I am new , joined last week, been diagnosed with type 2...so I am really new at everything..LOL.. I am from Kansas, 58 years old, and married for 36 years, 2 sons, 3 grandkids, and 3 dogs. I really need to know mainly when to check my blood sugar after eating....is there a time limit like an hour, or do I check it right after eating.... I am experiencing blurred vision as well, do I just need to wait to see if vision clears up, or go to an eye dr. ...legs are weak at times and I get tired easy too... started out with over 700/800 blood sugar a couple weeks ago, now it is down to 138 blood sugar, Dr. has me on pills right now, twice a day. , I need to lose aproximately 100 lbs...that is going to be the hardest thing for me... Had a friend from Care2 refer this group, she belongs here, but not sure what her screen name is here, thanks for the invite care2 friend... Hugs to everybody, and thanks for all the help I am sure I will need in the present and future.... Prango. |

Welcome, Prango! The first thing I would ask is that you kindly increase your font size to at least a 5...many of us cannot see well...much like you stated. If you are having trouble with your eyes, you can imagine lots of us are, too! WOW! 700 on diagnosis! That is high for a T2...you must be really sweet ! LOL! Seeing an ophthamologist is a good idea, for general eye health (retina, pressure, etc). But before making any adjustments to an eye glass prescription, it would be wise to allow your sugars to stabilize. High sugars will blur your vision, and the effects may last for months after a prolonged period of instability. You may feel weak when your sugars are high, as well. And the legs can be affected by circulatory issues, as well as something called peripheral neuropathy. All will improve upon your sugars becoming more stable. It just takes time. A good idea for testing, is to check your blood sugar both before a meal, and 2 hours after completing the meal. That allows your body to digest and absord the food, and your blood sugar to react to it. Fats and proteins affect your sugar more slowly than carbohydrates, especially the "white" foods and more simple sugars. We are all different, and the timing may vary...but general rule of thumb is 2 hours. Test as often as your doctor recommends, or more if you feel more comfortable. Losing weight is a matter of math: you need to burn off more than you consume. A dietician can assist you with meal planning for your goals, as well as numerous web sites. Increasing aerobic activity will be a big help in accomplishing your weight loss goals. Plus, it is good for your heart, and can improve your moods. Weekends are a bit slow around here, so don't be too put off by the lack of responses, OK? Honestly, if I hadn't hurt my leg, I'd be on my treadmill right now! Check out the posts, and meet this friendly group of caring and knowledgeable members. And ask all the questions you have! We always say the the only dumb question is the one you DIDN'T ask! Again, welcome! Make yourself at home! HUGS! sheryl |

Welcome to our family here Prango, I'm Maryb, 64 years old and been a type 2 diabetic for 13 years now. I'm on insulin and metformin. Wow you have has some HIGH sugars 700/800 . Glad to know you have brought them down. The best time after a meal is to take your sugars are 2 hrs after a meal. Take them at bedtime and when you first wake up in the morning ( thats called the fasting numbers the one you take when you first get up before you put anything in your stomach.) When your first learning what you can eat and not eat is to start on not eating any flour, gravies, white breads, potatoes, peas , corn. Eat more lean meats.poultry & fish, green vegetables except peas.Drink lots of water to help keep your kidneys flushed out. Your sugars should run between 80 to 140. Take care Prango, anytime you have any question & we will try and answer them for you. We don't seem to have as many active members here lately but someone will get back to you. Hope to see you posting. Maryb |

Welcome Prango.....I'm another Cheryl, been T1 for 33 yrs....and currently have no complications from diabetes..... this is a really cool group and a very helpful group. We have diabetics of all ages here.....we just had a ten year old (diabetic for 5 yrs)join within the last couple of weeks and of course there's of us up in our "golden age of life"....though sometimes the gold looks a bit tarnished, the people here sure do help to keep it sparklin' with their care and support...... hop in and join us with any questions.... concerns, thoughts.... confusions (we have alot of those...lol) or things you'd just like to share. Most of us do read the general board so if you post there you will get a good response, I'm sure..... don't ever worry that you might be on a wrong thread. I remember I didn't know whether to post my morning bs's on the T2 board because I am a T1....I soon learned to join in whenever or wherever you want. So I hope that you feel comfortable and I look forward to getting to know you. Peace,Cheryl |

Good Morning everybody, and thanx for the great welcome. Yep, eyes very blurry now, I use reading glasses, but they do not seem to do the trick now, very frustrating when I can't even read my mail... My BS# is now bouncing between 117 and 150, watching what I eat, walking a little , legs are weak, so can't walk long... Dr. has me on two pills.. actoplus met..twice daily...&.....januvia..once daily..they are samples....looked them up on the internet, and thier side effects are, nausea, diarea, stomach cramps, headache...but not blurred vision....so far, I have not experienced any side effects. I have to admit, I am scared as H$%^ that I may be going blind, since I am the main person in my household that takes care of everything ( husband is disabled)...I can't lose my sight...we are living on his disability, which is very little, and I have no insurance...the cost of the meds is scaring me too, when the samples wear out...I don't know what we will do.... Well, that is enough pitty potty for today, need to go check my blood sugar.... again, thank you for the great welcome...I will try to get back in again today and read ... I put my screen resolution lower so as the letters would be bigger too... |

I hope the eyes continue to improve as you get better control of those numbers... and we allow folks to vent here about their troubles and then encourage you to help try to resolve them if we can... and live with them if we can't...
