Hello to everyone,

I am struggling with knee pain now... for just about 5 weeks at this point... the story is long as to how I am not getting treated for it.... but I am finally seeing my N E W doctor due to beginning to receive SSI in March and changing to Medicaid.... anyway... the doctors have me on pain relievers...
Currently using the following for knee pain:
1. Ibuprofen ?800mg ? 1 ?2x day
2. Hydroco/Apap (Sub for Vicodin) ?7.5-500mg

Had MRI and second x-ray done on Thursday morning with first visit to new doctor the same day at 3 pm... first time in a long time I felt like I actually was treated well and throughly... she even examined my feet which my previous doctor never did even though I asked... repeatedly... and now waiting for doctors office to see the results... I go back in one month...

Okay........ now for my question.... since starting my pain meds... I have had lower than usual reading in general but especially in the mornings...

--> Does anyone know of any information that might explain this? <--

I am on Duetac which I take in the evenings for the diabetes. It has helped with the morning highs problem. My reading have gone from an average of 110 to 135 for first of the morning to ranging from 85 to 110 (usually under 100) in the mornings. I am not on insulin and other than the meds control with diet. I am having to eat a bit more frequently too since beginning the pain meds...

The one bright spot is that Mike built me a "Porch" to step on to be able to get his pick up truck... we gets some interesting looks and comments... Funny! but a blessing since I am usually not able to bend my knee...

Anyway......... Thanks in advance!
Gloria

Happy to hear you are getting pain meds and getting treated.
I have had different reactions from pain meds, sometimes my sugars go down and sometimes they go up.  Just depends on which kind of meds I suppose.  Also when you are in pain I think that can cause your sugars to be elevated just from the pain and stress of pain; when it is relieved by pain meds, it could cause sugars to come down a bit.  You might want to ask your doctor if they get too low but from what you have posted they seem to be in a good range for morning readings.  Wish mine were down (always have had a high morning number and I take meds and insulins).
Keep us updated on knee pain .
Hope you are feeling better soon.
Marge

i am sorry to hear about your knee, i know the problem.. i have had both operated on with pretty good success.  the shoulder is the killer for me .... I took so many pain bills i ripped a hole in my stomach and had to have lower and upper GI... but after change my meds I feel alot better.   i am on protonics now... keep in mind sugars can go crazy with all the meds...  i starting using tool that helps you manage your meds and sugars that i found on the American Diabetes Associton website.. and now it is FDA cleared it was offered by the ADA and i found a promo online that was offered by the ADA a few months back,  which gave me free year subscrition and free cable for any meter on the market.. ... http://www.mycareteam.com
all you have do is enroll with this code MCT0508PROMO and is FREE... LOL..

Good luck
