I have recently been diagnosed with type 2 and making some changes. I am not overweight, 55 and female..but never was in to exercise. Well..I joined CURVES...this is an exercise center for women...very popular...a work out that takes only 30 minutes. This is my first week and so far so good..which basically means..I am going and doing it! Anyone familiar with this program? Any sucess stories?

It is also in one of my diabetic magazines this month,,,,, a story about it!!  Hopefully some of our members will have some experience with it to share with you!! Just wanted to say WELCOME to the group,,,,,, Saw you joined a couple of weeks ago!!!

Please keep us updated on how things are going for you,,,, k? We would love to track your progress with you and encourage you if we can in anyway!!!

Cuddles, in response to Curves, I have been a member of 24 hour fitness for years but when Curves showed up in my neighborhood I had to try it.  It was ok, not enough choices for me so I stuck with 24 hour.  However, any movement is good especially for diabetics.  I go to 24 hour every week day morning.  I've met lots of nice people and that is where I usually meet girlfriends.  Some I've stayed in touch with for years now.  We as diabetics, have to keep moving, I think that is what has kept me from problems all these years.  Some times I don't want to go, but I just get up and say "I'm going to the gym to lengthen my life" and that usually gets me there.  The bottom line is that every time I work out I always feel better so that is a good thing.  Take care, Jett

Veets
I always say that the best exercise is the one that you actually DO!  If it is fun and  you stay motivated, then good for you!   sheryl

Thanks so much for the encouragement! I am working with an endo doc... he did put me on15mg of actos.....our goal for 6 weeks is to maintain around 100 or less..been doing that consistently...then we re do blood tests 6 weeks..re evaluate...at that point discuss going no drugs...just diet and exercise.  We shall se. having a hard time with this though I knew with my family history was likely in coming. Blown away about how it has made me depressed in spirit anyway! The exercise really is helping emotionally. Again thanks for the encouragement...I need it.

One thing we are really good at is encouragement!!!! Don't be discouraged that you are feeling a little depressed right now,,,, Most newly diagonized folks go through a period of that,,,,, But it can be so inspiring and powerful if and when you get control of this beast!! Now it might not be Always control,,,,,(I'm having a bad day today in regards to numbers being higher due to stress,,,,,, ) But if your typical day is at your goals,,,,,then I  think you are doing good!!!

Maybe you would like to join us on the type 2 board posting your morning glucose number!! We would love to see you there with us! I'm 43, type 1 now for 33 plus years,,,, Have had some complications due to early uncontrol,,,,,, But am basically doing pretty great!!!!

You will make it,,,, Keep doing that  exercise and learn as much as you can,,,,, if you have questions,,,,, just ask,,,,, Might get a few more responses on the general board,,,,,, k? Keep smiling, Cuddles/Kathy

I joined Curves a couple of years ago and really enjoyed the excercise and the group of gals that were there...I went long enough to earn my Purple T-shirt..........Unfortunately I developed what the dr thinks is a labral tear in my hip and I couldn't continue...(this WAS NOT caused by excercising at Curves).

I hope you enjoy Curves and will continue. I think's it's a great place!

Keep us posted.
Kathi

I am a member of Curves.  I paid for the first year, which was 2 years ago.  I do their accounting work for them, so they gave me a never-ending membership!  I was in the shower this morning, depressed due to not losing any weight - too many chocolate choices in the office, etc. - that I thought to myself - you know why don't you go back to Curves - 1/2 during lunchtime at work (right next door) and do it?  So, I will pick myself back up again, go grocery shopping this weekend for the diet again, and I will start going to Curves on Monday.  I think I am going to aim for M-F and take the weekends off.  Gets me out of the office for 1/2 hour - middle of day - so not so dead tired by the end of the day.

I have kinda been in denial the last month.  Figuring - well my sugar isn't that high - but I just can't think of it that way.  Something has to change soon.

Back to the Curves - would love to have a thread marking weight/inches lost - for people to log in once a week or something????

Shera

Congrats on your decision to return to curves.

It has been afew weeks for me and I am going 6 days a week...missed 2 days because of terrible stomach flu but went back to day.. terrific!  I really have no goals...excpet to get there and do the exercice! I was recently diagnosed so still keeping the blues away ..the newness of it is difficult..but..I feel I am in charge. The fact that Spring is here and weather in NYC is lovely is helping me get things going to. I have found this message board so encouraging.

What do you think about getting a sign up thread, where people that are going signin on the thread, and then maybe once a week, sign in to tell how many days you went to Curves or excercised and what the excercise was???

I think I will start a thread for this.  Hope I am not stepping over my boundaries or rules on it.

Let me know if it isn't allowed,
Shera
