Has anyone here used commercial diet programs like NutriSystem or Jenny Craig? NutriSystem has a "diabetic diet" program but I tend to distrust anything someone's trying to sell, so thought if anyone had any experiences they'd like to share.

In my humble opinion, I think the best diets are those that teach you how to eat real food in a sensible and healthy manner.  When I was a young teen, I went on Weight Watchers.  I was 5'8" and 180lbs.  Weight Watchers was, at that time, based on the diabetic exchange diet.  It taught me to measure food, so I learned what a portion size should look like.  "Portion control" is a difficult concept for a lot of folks to grasp.  These pre-packaged meal plans DO restrict portions, but only by way of limiting the amount they give you in their "cans."  And I really don't trust the quality of ingredients in those things, either.
Now granted, it has been a very long time since I've been on any weight reduction plan  (since the whole kidney thing, I'm 105 lbs).  But I remember everything I learned way back then.
Good luck!  Keep us posted on your progress, OK?  HUGS!  sheryl

I went to their site and checked out the diabetic choices they list all the meals
a lot of carbs..way too many for me.. a lot of rice, noodles, and a lot of protien bars...
when i see pancakes for breaksfast..and i am a t-2 and can not have carbs thats a red flag for me..

they send you the entrees ..they tell you at their web to shop the produce isle, fruit isle, dairy isle..too ..

if you going to have to shop in the grocery store..for those items i would rather
cook from scratch..  it seems you would be doing double duty here..

dont take my word for it...go look at the huge list of "diabetic entree choices" and tell me
what you think of the food they offer..

=warning --warning = waving arms LOL..( ok i watched way too many lost in space shows when i was an ankle biter)

You're RIGHT!!!
 It's Just Mega $$$$$$$$$$$$$$....
Rather do it from a scratch.

PS. However, I'd like to ask the group about the Breakfast.
Mine gives me quite  a trouble for the last few days, the b/sugar is too high.
What should I eat for Breakfast?

Any suggestion or samples???

Thanks!

Just an update -- I do agree that doing it from scratch is best but due to some circumstances in my life I can't cook and also have severe difficulty in getting to a grocery store, so that's not a possibility for me. In fact, that was the reason I'd thought of a prepackaged diet program in the first place.

I did join, but frankly the food is so awful that I'm going to cancel. It did give me a good idea of portion control, and I also found out that with my particular oral med I actually do better with more carbs and less protein. (I know, that's not what they preach, but it works for me.) I hate that I wasted that amount of money, especially since I'm still stuck with trying to manage diet meals when I have no regular way to shop. Oh, well....back to the drawing board....

Shop around and see if there is any store that will deliver!  They are rare but there are some OUT THERE!!!

What about Volunteer Services in your area?? or hiring a reliable college or High school student to shop and deliver!  Or Church or school that needs community service hours for the youth????

Just trying to throw out ideas for ya!  Prayers!

Final update -- turns out I I spent $300 on food that is mostly inedible -- but it WAS worth it: from the 3 days I stayed with their food, I learned that I can eat a LOT less and still survive. Since then I've been keeping to approximately the same general diet but using some fresh foods combined with microwave dinners. At day 16 I've lost 7 pounds and my daytime BGs are really coming down (still high in the mornings, but that's another issue).

One thing that helps is that I'm trying to eat new and different things, so I look forward to my meals and don't feel so deprived.

Btw, I've started making myself stop in at the grocery on the way home every day -- it adds a little to my walking, which should help. Now that my blood sugar is coming down I'm feeling a little less tired, and it's not so hard.

Thanks for all your encouragement!!
