I have set up a forum at AIMOO. I thought we might try. We can see if it will work, or choose to dump it and try another.
It looks like they may demand a small donation, which I set at $1.00. I am not sure how that works and I am not happy with it, but it is a means to an end. Since MSN has decided we are little value to them, I have no problem dumping them!
We are a diverse group, that have been together for many years. There is no point for all of us to run off to different places, so lets give this a try!
You will have to join AIMOO. Then if you put in (link)http://diabetesliving.aimoo.com    it will take you to the forum (hopefully)
I will be making all managers from DL and DC at this site, once you join.
Thanks for being here and hopefully there for the long haul.
Itsme Wayne

I set this up, because many people here do not post that often and I feel we can use this for a trial. We know MSN is shutting down and we do not want to loose track of our friends. This will also allow new people to join with our group.
MSN has not done a good job of keeping managemnt here, up to date. I have not trusted them since the dropped the chatroom and directed us to a pay site, that seemed to me to be a partner with MSN and also a kickback to them.
I think we need to move sooner than later!
My intent is to give our friends a safe place to try. We do not want to leave this to the last minute! people could be left without knowing how to reach us.
Itsme Wayne
ps. I am open to any forum the group wants to migrate to. I just feel it is important to get the job done. We need to test a new site and see if it will fly!

Last night I browsed the Internet and found at least 4 places where we can set up a message board.  Three of these were free.  We have lots of time to find a place to move to.  I agree it should be discussed with mananagers before we make a final decision.

I also agree it is the perfect time to combine the two groups.  I think "Diabetes Living Community" sounds good, but we can decide that when the time comes, too.

Thanks, Wayne, for checking out this site.  I did visit it but didn't join.  I will explore the sites I found, too.  It may be this one you found, Wayne, will work for us as well as any of the others. But we need to explore all options.  We don't know what MSN is going to offer in November with their "Windows Live Group."

Wayne-

I don't want anyone to get lost in the shuffle either.  However, I don't think that means that we need to jump ship today.  If MSN closes in February we can always move the board in December or January and leave a message at the top of this board linking to the new board until MSN shuts down.

This is a group board and I believe the decision should be made by the group. The people using the board should be able to choose what is best since everyone using it will be affected.  I agree with Suz in that we should wait until November and check out the Windows Live Group.  The only thing worse then moving is moving twice.

Suz and others,

Alisa joined the forum and did not have to pay. The site said it is free, but I am always leary of that.
If MSN is making a change, it is to make money. They use huge bandwidth and that is why they shut down chatrooms. They directed us to a paysite and I believe they will do this again. ( I think is was a sister site with a kickback) Why else would they want to dump all of the groups from the internet?
I think they would like to add us as paying members on their Windows Live group! We shall see, but I am convinced their (MSN) motivation is to allow them more paying bandwidth.

A problem with a Windows Live Group is that those with Macs, might not be able to access it.

Marge and Alisa have joined the site. It would be nice if more people would join, so that we can collectively evaluate the site and chatroom there.
I have not found anything offensive on the site and I have yet to try the chatroom.
There are many options there. From the looks (skins) to who, what and where we want features. I have basically made everything set to default, so that we may try the features and decide on which ones to use collectively.

Many may think it is too soon, but you can not evaluate a site in 5 minutes. We need to have a good and safe place to migrate to. We need to work it, so we know what we are getting into. Give it a try, post your take on it and lets try to make it work.

Just about anything would be better then msn groups. Unless the windows live groups support the functionality of currently available full featured message boards I don't see why WLG should even be considered. Support for Firefox, other non-IE browsers and MACs should also be a consideration when choosing a new message board to migrate to.

New Chat Room ~ Suzanna I have had absolutely no luck trying to get into the chat room, dont know why. I desperately wanted to be a part of the discussions and right now all that I am able to do is read what other members are discussing. I cant tell you how disappointing this has been. As you might remember its my husband that is the diabetic and there is so much to learn.

He is doing exceptionally well on Lantus, readings are great. Here is BC Lantus is not covered, but thats life. It costs about $140.00 a month.

Hope everyone is well and be assured I catch up on all the news.

Harry get on messenger again lol.

The Aimoo site we are trying seems to work ok, but we need to work the chatroom and modify the look of the message board.
Suz, Trek, hmbAlison, Sugar, Alisa, Marge have joined and a new gal Louise has posted there.
I think this site is worth the effort, so come and help set it up the way we would like to see it!
Thanks,
Itsme Wayne

I think it's pretty cool you can add a video on the message board at Aimoo. I've added two of mine. One is under the thread Smart Insulin. Discovered that when I was fooling around on the board trying to see what you can do.

Aimoo will move the MSN Group to a Aimoo archive. Aimoo Chat seems to be getting good reviews too.
